Egg cure?

Whats a good egg cure? And how too?

I use the red hot doule stuff by pro cure and i use the wert rine method that is on the back of the bottle. It works weel for salmon. Steelhead orange same for steel.

For salmon I use the Redd Hot Double Stuff and Coastal Cure as well.  I think they both work well and are easy to make.  Just follow directions on the bottle.  I prefer a more durable egg for salmon so you may want them to let them air dry a little longer before bottling them or bagging them up.

For steelhead I stick with the tried and true borax/salt cured eggs.  I just don't think steelhead are that picky and these look good to me, stay on the hook for multiple casts, and most importantly catch alot of steelies.

In a bag put 1 pound borax 1/4 pound brown sugar 1/4 pound powder milk thene get a box of red or orange jello mix .You can cut your eggs first or put the whole skien in mix well thene dry . It takes a day or two depends how hard you want your eggs.

Lost of good commercial cures (Pro Cure, UEC, Pro Glow, Fire Cure, Ammermans etc) A lot of this depends on if your going after Salmon or Steel.

I personally like a few commercial cures and the old salt/sugar/borax

Make it!! it's not hard to do. You just have to be willing to learn and spend the time testing it. Cureing eggs is easy and cheap.

To me catching fish on eggs  I cured with my cure is as much fun as catching fish. It's another hobby all in it's own.

the only stuff off the shelf i'll use is beau-mac pro glow.  that said, i don't think the cure you use is as important as how you prepare your eggs.  take care of them, and you'll end up with good results with any cure.

i only rarely use eggs for steelhead any more so i don't dry my eggs after curing.  i mostly use them for bobber fishing, so i leave all the juices in so i can get them as milky as possible.  if i do feel like drifting them, i can always put them on a rack after taking them out of the freezer.
