Back from the Taxi
« on: October 07, 2009, 10:44:46 PM »
Just got my 2008 blacktail back from the taxi. Looking good right in the middle of the living room, regardless of what my wife thinks. I just had to hang it high enough she couldn't reach it and hide the ladders :IBCOOL:

She needs access to the mounts on the wall....

Needs to be vacuumed and dusted once in a while.

Since we're nearing the late season, give us a short version of the story, or repost your hunt link.  Nice buck, by the way!!  Been after a mature blacktail for nearly 20 years now  :bash:

Well, here is the hunt story. Extended buck of last year on Saturday evening, a really nice buck got away from me, had a split second chance at the deer and couldn't get a shot. This was about 3 miles behind locked gates. So, Sunday morning, I have to go back up there, this buck was haunting my dreams. Unfortunately the next morning, I hike back in the area before dark and spend about 4 1/2 hours looking for the buck that got away. Couldn't find a single deer. Glassed clearcuts, hunted the one timber patch in the area and even pushed through some jackies and couldn't find a thing. I decided to call my brother and see how his hunt was going (originally had planned to hunt with him on Sunday until I saw this buck Saturday evening). My brother had already killed his deer for the year and was going along with a buddy of mine to find a buck he'd seen on Thursday in a different area. The clearcut they were sitting on was still fogged in, so I decided to head there way. Fortunately I had walked my mountain bike the three miles in so it took me only a few minutes to bomb out of there and head up to meet my brother and buddy.

After the walk into their area, I get there about 11:00-11:30, fog is still thick. My bro and buddy are freezing. Soon after I arrive, the fog starts to lift and we finally get to glass the older clearcut, but our hopes aren't real high. Then, about noon, my buddy says, "there's a buck" walking up through the clearcut. Sure enough, there is. My buddy has killed some whopper bucks and for some reason, he offered to let me shoot the deer. I said No, you shoot him, you spot him..you shoot him, that's how it works. He insisted that he didn't want to and we didn't have time to argue so I grabbed the rifle and settled in. To keep this from being any longer, one shot to the heart and this buck was done.

I asked him later why in the (#$&#@$(&@#(&$@(#&$(# he offered to let me shoot? He said he's killed bigger bucks and about 3 years ago I helped his son kill his first bull elk, so he thought it was only fair? Well, I guess what comes around goes around and I couldn't be more happy with this buck.

He's a 4x3 about 16" square with nice little eyeguards and makes one hell of a living room wall ornament!

Good luck to everybody in 2009,

BrownGoinDown
