Good WY Buck
« on: October 12, 2009, 05:51:17 PM »
Now that I can post a picture, thought I'd share my buddies buck from WY from last year.  I had him put in for a unit I've been applying in for years and... you guessed it, he drew right out of the gate!

Anyway, we got some good reports and information from past hunters and made a game plan.  In general, we were told we could expect to see 20-30 bucks a day, but not a lot of big bucks.  A 170 class buck was quite doable, with an occasional 180+ possible, and it would be the funnest hunt you've ever done!

Well, the reality was not quite that good.  We saw about 12 bucks a day, with half of those being in the adjoining unit.  Of the 6 bucks a day we saw in our unit, half of those were on private ground, so that only gave us about three a day he could shoot.  And aside from the one my buddy shot, a 170 buck would've been a monster (we got the biggest buck we saw for the week).

But he was a good buck... at least for us.

Enjoy!
