Limsaver Recoil really work?
« on: October 22, 2009, 07:26:36 AM »
Just wondering if anyone has tried the "Limbsaver" recoil reducing pads on a rifle and if so how did it work? I have a 338 WinMag that jars me quite a bit at the range, in fact after about 5 rounds I've had enough. I love this gun and in the field you don't feel a thing (2 elk and 1 cougar) but I would like to enjoy it at the range as well. I've been reading and it sounds like a visit to the gunsmith would help, at least with regard to fitting of my Ruger M77 MkII anyway. But if a simple slip on recoil pad would work I'm all for it.  Any insight? :dunno:

Yes, it makes a difference on my .30-06 which has no recoil pad.

I had the exact rifle you have. I ended up with a pre-fit Pachmyr decelerator pad. It made the recoil a bit more pleasant over the thin hard pad Ruger puts on at the factory.

I recently put a Limbsaver on my Tikka T3 and think the Pachmyr does a better job reducing the felt recoil.

Pachmyr makes two pre-fit pads for the Ruger. Pre 2001 is #01736 and post 2001 is #01741.

I have a Pachmeyr magnum decelerator pad on my M77 all weather with teh old boat paddle style stock in 300 win mag.  It is a definite improvement over the factory stock pad.  I have a Sim recoil pad on 325wsm which is a Browning stainless stalker, and I feel the Sims pad is superior in reducing felt recoil.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

The Limb works great! Have also had the Decel and feel the Limb does a better job at reducing felt recoil.

I have two Model 70's in 300 wsm.  One is the classic walnut blued rifle with the Pachmayr decelerator, while the other is a stainless/synthetic version.  The stainless rifle is much lighter. I bought a prefit Limbsaver for it.  It was a very quick two screw installation, and the rifle with the Limbsaver has less felt recoil.
I would be surprised if there is not a prefit Limbsaver made for your rifle.
Good Luck.

I love my limbsaver, use it on my .300 mag. Plus I think they are made local.

My Rem 700 came with an R-3 recoil pad, right out of the box.  Similar to the limbsaver pad, but a Remington product.  I love it, and will never own another high powered centerfire without one.  I fitted my son's .243 with a Limbsaver slip on model.  He is 10 years old and only weights about 70 lbs, but he can shoot that rifle all day and it doesn't bother him.

:) Picked up the slip-on model last night at Sportsmans/Wholesale Sports in Silverdale. Will try it out this weekend at the range. Sounds like a good investment from all of your comments. In fact I picked up a great idea from Pathfinder101 and that is to use a Limbsaver on one of my kids rifle's. I have been trying to figure out what caliber to get for them so they won't be intimidated by recoil. Sounds like a 25-06 with the Limbsaver would work well in that case.

Thanks again all !!! ;)
