Find a food source and sit and glass. Have to sit very still for very long periods of time. good luck

Its a lot of waiting unless you just get lucky that day. Or you could be like the family I ran into tonight, pulled into the gas station and there was a nice bear in the back of the truck. I frequent the store so the lady wasn't shy in letting out the trick. I guess its all about feeding them and then stop all of a sudden and a couple days later bring in some smelly goodies early in the morning. God I would love to work undercover for the game dept!    Oh and to top it off... they had their young son with them teaching how to ethically hunt !!! A holes

I was told bear lures are legal in this state. They sell it for about $10 bucks a bottle at Cabelas.

Bear lures are illegal and it makes no difference if they sell it somewhere.  We've had this discussion many times here.  They sell LOTS of things in various stores inside and outside the state which are illegal for use in the state.  Bait is classified as ANY substance placed to attract bears.  Trust me lure falls into this catagory.

 :yeah:

I got it straight from a gamey. Scent, lures, food, is all baiting. It's illegal. trust me. I've had this arguement 1000 times so I figured I'd ask a gamey face to face. Scent is bait.

Yea, I sincerely hope you did the RIGHT thing and turned thier happy ass' in immediately. Not saying you did or did not, but I see this way too many times. Folks bitching about unethical hunters, poachers, and law-breakers yet they never do anything about it.  Even if you distrust the game department or feel that it's not enough for them to make an arrest...do your part! Make the call and let the authorities do what they need to do. I would much rather see the information passed to them regardless because if they don't know about it then it's a certainty that those freakin' idiots will get away with it...and do it again and again until they finally do get busted.

I hope you turned them in as well. Just not the right image us lawful hunters want out there. Also thanks everyone for clarifying the use of bear lures. I have seen it used in this state and I reread the hunting regs and it says any bait is illegal.

Thanks again

Good thing I stumbled onto this thread, I will admit I was illegal this fall when I was tipped off on a bear location. I put apple scent on a stump to attract the bear, never saw it and thankfully didn't shoot one. It did come in and destroy the stump. I was also trying to get some good pictures of anything on my new homebrew. Never the less, I admit I was in the wrong and will discontinue that. I hope this doesn't piss anyone off. I was following the advice of some old timers in the area, guess I will just follow all you old timers instead.  :chuckle:

Many MANY people are confused by this law.  It should be clear in the regs and it is not.  It would have been so easy for them to put in ONE sentence telling their definition of baiting, but they didnt.  Makes me wonder if they do this kind of stuff on purpose.
