If you hike a lot, don't buy Danner's in my opinion. In one year I walked out two pairs of Pronghorns. Both pairs leaked, and I broke the sole in one pair. I put Danner boot grease on after every time out, and they still leaked after a while. They are super light and comfy, but its hard to be comfortable when your feet are wet. I hike a *censored*load, weekly besides June and July, so these results aren't common I bet. I switched to Meindl Hunter and Perfekt Hikers, couldn't be happier. You can weather one hell of a storm in them, and comfortable as can be. Heavy kind of, but you get used to them.

really? ive had the same pair now for 5 years. always keep them clean, use the danner products to clean them and keep the leather conditioned good. and i have never had one problem with them. and this season alone i have hiked over 30 miles.

I like the higher end, full leather, stitched down, airbob sole Danners.  Cabela's Elk Hunter and similar Danner label style.  I work them hard and no complaints.  These are boots you have to break in, not the sneaker style glued together Pronghorns, real boots.  I grease them regularly and get about 5 years out of them before the Gore-Tex gives out.  The airbob sole is very quiet and cushy.

Switched this season from the Danners to the Meindls.  I liked my Danners they were comfortable, but I blew them up.  Two deer, elk, and turkey seasons and the toe caps cracked, and I pulled the arch of the sole off the body.  They leaked horibky before that too.  Also took a good season to break in before I didn't get blisters on my heels, still gave me hotspots.  My new Meindl Ibex are comfortable, and have seen many miles already this year.  No blisters, even when I scouted a 4 mile round trip with cotton gym socks.  The leather did soak through on my during the general opener and I was more than a bit peeved.  But it was VERY wet where we were, and after some bees wax they were rock solid last weekend.  If they leak again they will go back for another pair, I love them that much.  The soles are a little heavy, but grip in the wet stuff better than my Danners did...

All I know is if a boot is awsome during a combat deployment to Iraq and can last two more hunting seasons than it is an awsome boot.  I have some friends that took Danners to A-Stan which is as rugged and remote as you can get and they both loved their Danners.  Both held up very well.  Climbing steep mountains.  Rain, Snow, super high temps all with 70lbs of gear on and they held up like a champ.  I can GUARANTEE you if you buy a good pair of Danners you can not go wrong.  Like I said I guarantee you in 7 months I put more miles on in mine than anyone on this site did in two years of hunting.  ANd my frined in A-Stan during his year tour there put more miles on than anyone here did in 4 years of hunting.  They held up.  Just take care of them.

I wondered the same thing because in less than 3 days the boot is no longer on their web site. I have only had mine a couple days but I sure like them.

I wear hanwag's and my feet feel better and better as the day goes on were as a couple of my pards (Rockys and Danners) could barely walk after a day on a steep ridge with lots of rocks and slides :dunno:

For just dinking around I wear Merrils and a pair of Filson highlanders.

On my second pair of Irish Setters in 5 years (just bought the new pair this summer).  I love them, but everyone I know who owns a pair of Kenetreks swears by them.  Fanatically.
I amy have to sack up and buy a pair in a couple of years.

Wow in 2 years and 4 years of hunting thats pretty impressive!!

It is what it is.  If I sounded stuck up I appologize.  I was just trying to relate that Danners are an excellant boot and trying to give an example of what a guy goes through in a year to show how well Danners are made.  Currently our infantrymen in A-Stan are conducting foot patrol 5-6 days a week.  Sometimes 7 days a week.  During that day he can expect to hike 5-10 miles a day in terrain that is more rugged and harsher than any of us will face in our state, all while carrying 60-70lbs of gear.  An infantrymans feet will (not bragging but stating a fact) see more rugged miles in one year in A-stan than any one of our feet will see in 4 years or more.  If Danners can hold up to a tour in A-Stan or Iraq then they will hold up to anything any one on here can put them through.

(This statement does not apply to professional guides who regularly guide in the high country of the Rocky Mountains or in Alaska.)

I was torn between the Meindles at Cabelas and the Zamberlans.

I was worried about the Meindles being too hot.Because of the memory foam so I went with the Zamberlans.

Wow!!! What a great comfortable boot.I put a ton of hard miles on these within a couple days of buying them.Extremely comfy dry boots!!!
