bob...we could always find a use for that fishing license. as long as you don't mind a little drive up to one of the -s- rivers.

I might have to take you up on that. With my luck I sure wouldn't expect to actually catch anything, but it would be a great excuse to just get out of the house and see some new scenery.

My son and I also put in for Kapowsin.  Not sure what the price of gas will do to the application process this year.

My concern is it will do nothing to the application process, but it will have a huge impact on guys deciding to hunt closer to home. And possible wasted permits, from guys just bagging it...I hate to see someone get a nice permit and stay close to home, instead of utilizing it...

I would think that with the high price of gas that many people who would have otherwise put in for eastside spring bear, may have chosen to only apply for the westside permits. So if there is any effect, I would expect to see less applicants for the eastside permits and more applicants for the westside permits. Also possibly less applicants overall.

I know my first choices were closer to home....north skagit and monroe areas...we shall see. Not really based on the gas prices, although...man it is getting to be stupid expensive to drive.

I put in for the eastside, If I draw I'll go over for a week. If I drew closer to home I would probably spend more in gas in the long run.

I kept it close to home, 49 degrees and Huckleberry, but not because of gas prices.  Just easier to skip out of work and make a day trip.

If I really wanted a bear I would have applied for different units, but do to lack of interest and high gas prices I put in for the two closest units. If drawn for one I will probably hunt alot, if drawn for the other I will try to put in at least 3 weekends maybe more.

"A drawing will be held in mid-March for 295 permits in western Washington and 235 permits on the east side of the state. Successful applicants will be notified by March 31."

When you applied, you were given the option of giving the WSDFW your email so they could contact you via email, instead of snail mail.

Best of luck to all.

I would be willing to bet we can check online too....
