09 Bones Bucks TOO CLOSE
« on: November 19, 2009, 02:34:09 PM »
Ever get too close to a trophy deer.   This picture was full frame.   Wish I could say it was a big stalk, but was drving and I spotted him and he looked like another deer I like.  I about crapped.  I pulled up with the camera and had the 1.4 on.  I ripped it off and got out of the truck.  I was too close it wouldn't focus.  He kept bleating at me.  I ran backwards to get some distance between us, WELL....that hit his natural instinct to pursue.  He started coming at me with his rut gate.  GLARING and BLEATING.  I'm like crap.  I was trying to get back without getting skewered.  I stood my ground with the big white lens and I guess that was enough.  He turned away. FINALLY in range, but from behind. DAMN IT.    I started following him.  He checked a doe then moved on.  I saw that I only had about 10 pics left on the card.  I yelled at booner to dig out a new card and I was selective.  I changed cards and he spotted two does on the hill.  OFF he went.   I am hoping I got a couple full frame shots of him instead of half a deer.   That was so frickin cool I have a hard time evaluating the deer.  I think he was about 3.5-4.5 years old.  He is a carbon copy right down to a weak fork of his Daddy or brother.   He lacks mass and some width of him. but HOLY MOLY.  If he survives another year, I know where I will be hunting.

"How was your lamb?"  Skewered.  I love that word!!

I can't get a buck.....you have to beat them off with a stick.

Thanks!
I agree Michael, thats exactly what I thought.  I figured 3.5 by the rest of him.  I can't believe his antler growth though.  What genetics.  His dad or older brother who is carbon copy, I MEAN CARBON  is an incredible deer.

Finally a full frame of him for you....
