Should I just keep it? - Colt / Umarex M4 OPS
« on: November 22, 2009, 02:47:28 PM »
My wife wanted a semi-auto .22 and I thought I'd be "Super Husband" by surprising her with a really cool .22lr.

So she opens the box (as shown below) and at first she seems excited ... until she shoulders it and says, "Oh, this is interesting."  Bottom line.  She doesn't like how it feels.  Turns out I could have played Super Husband for a lot less.  I have a couple of offers, the largest being $520 but that's a little shy of what I would let it go for.

Keep it?

If you don't like it, and she does not like it, then sell it and take her gun shopping. It looks like they sell for $570 through Davidsons so probably 50 or so cheaper to have a shop owner order it for you. $520 is not bad.
Never, ever let Creed hold you baby, it will ruin it and you will have to get another.

Unless you can get back real close to what you put in to it, I'd keep it.  A 22 lr "AR" is like a V-6 Mustang or Charger... what's the point?  For a bit more, you could have gotten a real AR.  :dunno:  Should have went with a basic 10/22 and tricked it out later if she liked it.   :twocents:

"A 22 lr "AR" is like a V-6 Mustang or Charger... what's the point?"

A fun plinker for my wife.  I haven't shot it but I suspect it's lot more fun than a 10/22, especially with 3X the magazine capacity.

"If you don't like it, and she does not like it, then sell it and take her gun shopping."

Yeah.  Turns out she wants a Marlin 60. Yes, I'm still kicking myself. :bash:  I already have two AR's (a Bushmaster A2 Target and Noveske N4 Light Recce) and if I keep it, it will at least make an inexpensive plinker for mag dumps - something I can no longer afford to do with my AR's.

Either way, lesson learned.

Actually these things are awesome for competition practice, keeps the ammo bill low.

Also keep it, you already have it right??   ;)

I like my 50 rounders on my 10/22

I guess since that you have already bought it, the point is moot, but there are 25/30/50 round mags readily available for the Ruger.  Plus, you have the option of converting it to .17 Mach II.

"Actually these things are awesome for competition practice, keeps the ammo bill low."

So, you spend around $700 on a .22 lr so you can save money?  How about just spending $225 for a 10/22, trick it out into a pistol-gripped, tactical carbine for another $250 and use the left over $225 and buy 5,000+ rounds of ammo?

I take it straight shooter just doesn't like it. Geez, cut the guy a little slack. It's not cool to go slammin a guy for no reason. I actually kind of agree with you but who benefits by rubbing salt in a wound.  :dunno:

I think you'd be able to sell it pretty easily. Bummer the wifey doesn't like it. Looks like a fun toy.

Sorry... my intention wasn't to slam him or anyone else.  He asked the question, so I thought I was answering it.  When it comes down to it, it's his money and if he was okay with his purchase, he would have never posted the question... I was just trying to give some options.  I guess that I should have been nicer about it.  I have two MPA (MAC-10) pistols that I regret buying... I wish that I would have asked the question before I bought them... maybe, someone would have been straight with me.  Hopefully, they'll turn out to be a good investment down the road... or at least, good trade bait.

Like I said, " Yes, I'm still kicking myself. :bash:"

Feel free to get a few kicks in while I'm at it.

The damage is done.  And it was quite a bit. It was listed for $639 at Keith's in Portland when I bought it.  I'm sure its a fun gun but the more I think about it, (that means I talked to the wife) I think I'm going to sell it.  Let me know if you know of anyone who's interested.  First $530 has it.

I bought one of these and can tell you don't try to put Remington ammo through it, it wont even feed.  The little bit of cci I had fed flawlessly and I've heard the bulk federal does fine also.  One thing people aren't realizing is that a 10-22 while awsome doesn't have the same feel as an AR style rifle.
