wind drift
« on: November 23, 2009, 02:59:11 PM »
took my partner out on sunday in the wind storm, saw a smaller buck about 200-250yds away with a slight cross wind. partner fires and i watch the bullet hit about five feet behind the deer, he fires again this time leading the deer with the wind now blowing hard and watched the bullet hit the ground about 7-or 8 ft. behind the buck. we moved forward and never saw that deer again. checked my reload book and it didnt list anything over 30mph at 100yds. whats the hold?

I can't picture any rifle that far off from wind at that distance.

what caliber? what bullet? its HIGHLY unlikely he was getting that much wind drift. 7-8ft while leading? nope, not the wind there... unless maybe you were shooting a 40gr bullet.

Even a 40 wont move that much with a 30mph at 250 yards unless it's going really really slow. He's got scope and or shooting issues.

Buck feaver.  Or he had a case of high power flinch.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!
