Winston 520
« on: November 29, 2009, 01:45:24 PM »
I was wondering if someone could point out to me where in the regs that there is a late season for Muzzleloader listed for 520.  I have looked and cannot find it, the reason I ask is because I saw a few in the woods this past weekend up there.  Thanks

Yeah I looked in there and couldn't find anything for deer or elk special draws.  I must just be missing it somewhere.

Yeah I was archery hunting up there.  I said I saw 3 muzzleload hunters in the woods, I was just wondering if there was a special draw or something for them to be there hunting.

They actually could be cougar hunting legally if they have the tag.  I couldn't see anything else in the regs that would let them hunt otherwise but I may have missed something...........Les

There is no muzzleloader season in the Winston unit right now, neither general season or special permit. My guess is they were lost and thought they were in the Mossyrock GMU. What part of the Winston were you in?

Must be the north side of the Winston near town of Mossyrock would be my guess.  Same issues last year.

That happens every year.  When we see them.  We ask them if they are aware that they are in the Winston unit.  Then they turn tail and run like a whooped dog.  Hoping not to get caught by FW Enforcement.

Just proves need to know the boundaries

There is a spot around perkins rd that get a little difficult to decipher the boundary's, see it happen before. Is there a chance you were in Mossyrock unit?

If they used the excuse they "thought" they were in Mossyrock unit they need to read the regs.  They were at the base of Green Mountain. Not the road, the actual mountain. Two days in a row, there is not grey line for that far into Winston unit.

Are you sure they were muzzleloaders?  There are permits for rifle in the Toutle and Coweeman units that would have been open at that time. They still wouldn't have been in the right unit, but close.

:chuckle: Thats funny right there.  I saw where they had their car parked.
I was watching them walk thru the timber until they were about 40 yards away when they noticed that someone had a tree stand in a tree there.  They walked over to it and looked at it then hung a fern branch on the ladder.  I was close enough at that point that I could see without any doubts that they were muzzleloaders.  Secondly I am 100 percent sure of where I was considering my parents house is only a couple miles from there.
From the sounds of it these 3 guys, two seperate groups were hunting illegaly.  Thanks for anyone that replied regarding my question if I had missed something in the regs.
