Cameron Hanes' book "Backcountry Bowhunting"

Has anybody read this book?  What did you think of it? I am thinking about reading it and I was curious of your thoughts on it.

I've read it, maybe a year and a half ago. I feel its worth reading, it was very motivational. Plan on reading it again, WHEN I get it back from a hunting partner

Definitely two thumbs up.  it is actually about backcountry hunting, rather than selling products.

Great book and I enjoyed it.  Also good, and maybe better, is David Long's book, "Public Land Mulies".  Although this book is focused on rifle hunting and I'm a bowhunter I really enjoyed this book, as well (the book was written before David Long became the bowhunting editor).  Both have great info about backcountry hunting and are pretty fun (and quick) to read.

It results in endless jokes about using the "4 phase glassing system" which means that, of course, we one up each other until one of us is using the billion phase glassing system or somehow taps into the Hubble telescope and points it at the unit that we're hunting.

Definitely educational as far equipment and preparedness.

public land mulies, by David Long seems more like he wrote it just to make a buck...
I read a lot of what he writes and he'll write one thing, then come back a while later and write the opposite.

I enjoyed both of Hanes' book (Bowhunting Trophy Blacktail is the other). He has a level of dedication that I've never seen before. He does mention a couple of brands of equipment that he has used but speaks more to the type of equipment that works and the types that don't, as well as lessons he has learned the hard way (like the importance of a good sleep pad). He is certainly all about being prepared and his books bring up several things that I probably wouldn't have thought about. I think that even experienced outdoorsmen can learn something from his books. They are a pretty quick read too.

But the lowest price is $74.   And one of the books is listed at $155.31  

Seems the same thing is true of Boyd Iverson's book Trophy Blacktails II. I've been looking for it and it's in the same price range.

Apparently books are in short supply right now.

Thats crazy! I didn't realize there was some value to it now. I ordered mine from Eastmans shortly after it was available. I guess there goes lending it out to any buddies!

Well, I checked and it is listed on Eastman's site for $24.99. So if it really is available from them at that price, a guy ought to order several of them and sell them on ebay for $50 to $75. From seeing the Amazon price I'd bet if you tried to order from Eastmans they would say it is on backorder.

Its a good book.  He is the real deal to hunting, not just a high paid dude that hunts ranches.  He knows animals for sure.  His writing style is kind of dry but the information is spot on.  Its a must read if you are a beginner, and certainly a good read if you are an expert.

Cabelas had it in Lacey and I bought the  Bowhunting Trophy Blacktails at Sportmans Wharehouse (wholesale sports) a year ago.
