OK, here's the story.

Day 1, was slow day, tried a new area which I've never hunted before. Let Kasey my son pick it out, I should have coaxed him move to go to my old stand by area.

Day 2, snowing lightly and in my area. Had only been in the woods about 15 minutes when I see 5 does and this buck at about 80 yards. We kneel down to watch and after about 2o minutes the 1 doe and buck start around the knob we are on. I tell Kasey to start backing up and get turned around. We start around the knob the other way and I soon see the doe making her way towards us. I motion for him to get ready as they close in to 35 yards. He pulls back, aims and takes the shot. The arrows hits his in the back leg and breaks it and he takes off. I can see the worry in his eyes, but I tell him that we'll get him and to be positive. We mark the spot and wait a bit. We slowly take the trail after about 30 minutes, seeing no blood but can see his drag mark from his broken leg. About 1/2 mile later we finally catch up to him in his bed and Kasey finishes the deal. I was very proud of him as he stayed focused thoughout all of it. There's not much better than taking your kids hunting and out into the outdoors. Very proud of him, shot a spike last year with his rifle and really wanted to bowhunt with dad this year. I think I was more excited that he was!
