Float tube+ducks=Legal?
« on: December 25, 2009, 07:53:52 PM »
Merry Christmas Everyone.
Sorry for the ignorance but I want to make sure I'm not going to get in trouble by doing what I'm hoping to do tomorrow:  I intend to hike into a pond with my float tube and a 1/2 dozen decoys, set out and get to a spot that I know holds ducks before light, set my mini-spread and shoot some ducks WHILE SITTING IN MY TUBE.

The only thing I saw in the waterfowl regs was:  Pg 22 No persons shall take migratory game birds:  "c).  From or by means, aid, or use of a sinkbox or any other type of low floating device, having a depression affording the hunter a means of concealment beneath the surface of the water."
I'm not conceled, I'm still sticking out about 2 feet above the surface.

IS THIS LEGAL?
Any inputs or clarification would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Fellas,
  Aaron

You would be 100% legal.

It's totally legal as long as your allowed to shoot where you will be hunting.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Thanks fellas, I sure appreciate the clarification.

Pete:  Yeah, I'm a little leary about walking and putting out any kind of spread....there's no boat launch or road anywhere near this place.  I don't think I'll get messed with much out there.  Just got the tube aired up and am getting ready to try on my waders and fins.  I'm going to freeze my butt off!!!!!  :)  Will keep my eyes open for some other spots... ;)

Just remember safety first- You get too wet and hypothermia could get you. Bring a cell phone or a partner. If not either of those at least carry some dry clothes and something to start a fire if needed. OK I am done now- Have fun and take pics.
This closet is taken- go find your own

I'm way ahead of ya, shoot-em-dead.  I google mapped where I'm going and saved it for my wife.  She knows the area well, it's where I've taken her fishing before.  I have everything you could imagine in my tube:  first aid kit, flashlights, waterproof matches, pitch, knife....you get the idea.  Thanks for the inputs boys!!!!!

I used to hunt the dune lakes along the OR coast using an innertube with straps across it and my wetsuit bottoms with booties and fins.  The ducks don't pay a lot of attention because your profile is low.  I even had a family of otters check me out one day....  got my first West Coast woody this way.

Have fun!

Well, that didn't work for crap!!!!  First my jeep wouldn't start, farted around with that for about 1/2 an hour.  Got to the spot and got ready to walk in and couldn't carry everything so I strapped decoys to me and my float tube.  Once I got in to the pond, that was a whole different story.  The ice wasn't too thick, but it was thick enough that I couldn't kick through it and break my way out to open water....needless to say I didn't get any shooting in but I SAW some ducks.  :)  AND when I returned to my jeep I heard a flock of Canadas land on the pond.....I'm going steelheading tomorrow.
Thanks again for all the inputs guys!
