Mammoth Ivory Sleek Skinner For Sale
« on: January 14, 2008, 10:31:55 PM »
Here's kind-of a special knife, Guys...

It's made on my new favorite skinning blank. Some customizing to the butt and the thumb swale. It's 8A Stainless, 7 1/4" overall, with a 3" blade. The tang tapers from 5/32 at about mid point both ways, to the tip and the the butt. Sweet heft and handling. 7/8" wide.

The grip is bolstered, grommeted, and pinned with Nickle Silver.

The scales are Siberian Wooly Mammoth Ivory! I managed to get full sized scales on this thin gripped skinner with authentic Wooly Mammoth "bark ivory." Bark ivory is the outer surface ivory of Mammoth Tusks, frozen in the Siberian Tundra for Ages.

Laid on top of White Carbon, on top of Red Carbon.

Enjoy some photos of this Baby!

Ivory is fully sealed. It's working art. Comes with the leather sheath pictured.

Gotta ask $195 delivered for this piece. I spent alot on the Ivory.

Thanks for looking!

Speaking of mammoth I looked at a 12 1/2 foot tusk in the Yukon last week almost pulled the trigger but the condition sucked.   Pretty amazing though the largest bone I even seen without a doubt.

If you think matched elk antlers are expensive check out what a 6ft matched set of mammoth tusks go for............. :yike:

I'm hoping to find one in my back yard.  There was one found directly across from me a mile or two away in the wenas, straight across the vallley from me.  I'm hoping his mate died on my side of the river. :chuckle:

My old neighbor is a carver hes got the hook up I don't ask where the stuff comes from ;).....The best thing I saw was a  full mount of a Mammoth that was made from muskox hides and mammoth tusks.  Its so good that the Smithsonian tried to buy it but the taxi wouldnt let it go.  ( he making another one for them)

My neighbor goes to the mining camps every spring and bids on raw bone and such.........my dream is to have two 15 ft matched tusks in my house some day.  Tusks are really rare over 10ft and match sets over 6 are extremely rare........My neighbor has clients all over the world for his work.....I met Robin Williams in his shop one time :dunno:

WOW...neat.   I love any sort of that natural material.  Thats one reason I like rainshadows knives.  I'd like one of the above on a damascus blade as soon as he finds one.  I got a knife to match my old bow from him, now I'll need one to match the new one.

Ummmm..... jeepers what a dialogue! As I understand it, Mammoth is free reign becaue it's extinct, and thereby can't be on the endangered species list.  I just watch places like e-bay. The places I've seen really world class stock were full collector retail prices... which = Too Rich for Me!
