Congratulations Jesse! I won the taxidermy auction that was held to raise money for you a few months back. I came home empty handed this year, and a shoulder mount of my '09 deer tag just wouldn't look right.  :P If you'd like to have this deer mounted by Michelle_Nelson, it's on me. Your deer is more of an accomplishment than anything I'll ever get. Besides, it took me 14 years of hunting to get my first deer, it could be a while before I get another one :chuckle:.

My parents were in a car wreck 3 years ago that left my mom a quadriplegic. I was there the first time she was able to wiggle her toes 1 year after the accident. That small simple act meant more to her than anything that I'll ever experience short of the birth of my 2 kids. I can only imagine that taking this deer such a short time after your accident is something that you'll never forget. I'd be honored if you'd allow me to help you remember this event.

Andrew

Wow!

Another fine example of why I enjoy this site.

Some people spend their entire life wondering if they made a difference. Marines don't have that problem.

Does soaking in milk really do anything? Has anyone ever tried this and know it works, besides just wishful thinking?

I love heart, deer, elk, bear, and have never soaked it in anything but Gastric juices after swallowing. In my opinion it would ruin the taste, at least for me. Everyone to their own.

I soak it overnight in saltwater to remove excess blood which helps with the flavor in my opinion.
