My new cage trap
« on: January 12, 2010, 08:23:58 PM »
My wife was talking to friend about me getting into trapping and they mentioned they had a trap they would sell for cheap.  It is a Humaneway trap and I got it for $20.  It seems like a decent trap but I wouldnt recommend buying one because they support HSUS on their site.

I got it set up beside my garage.  I have a bunch of stray cats and a raccoon in the neighborhood so I loaded it up with some sardines.  :dunno:

Good luck, make sure the cats meet the same fate as the racoons.

If your trap is on the ground I hope you have it covered!!!  If your only after cats and coons get it up off the ground, even a foot and a half is plenty to keep the skunks out.  When you do catch your feral cats, dispose of them quietly, you might find out the hard way they were feral after all.  It's a pain you do not want to experience.  Good luck!

I will try raising the trap after this weekend if I dont have any luck.  I live in the city and dont have any skunks here.  Just the occasional raccoon or opossum. The cats are not feral they are stray, as in on my property and I dont own any.  The pound is very close so I will probably just go drop them off there.

if you think you don't have any skunks because you live in the city, you may be in for a big stinkey surprise.

:chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:  I trapped 30+ skunks last year, ALL of them were in the city and I would say 15 of them came off of property that the owners did not know there were any skunks in the area... :dunno:..Just saying.....

It would be cool....unless your trap is un-covered....I only speak from extensive first hand knowledge.  :)  You become part of bomb disposal.  :)

Just make sure you are legal, you need food and water in the humane trap from what I was told by humane society!Especially now that you have advertised what you are doing!I did the same thing with all the stray cats,I caught a few neighbors cats and had a lot of neighbors mad at me! :bdid:

My Dad when he was alive used to relocate the feral cats in his neighbor hood. Either by coming over to visit me with the kitty in a gunny sack after he had caught it and then parking next to my dog kennel. He would untie the sack and come in and visit, when the kitty got free of the sack and jumped to freedom next to the kennel and then my dog's went off I would go hush the dog's. He kept this a secret for several years. But I do have to admit it was a great idea. So then he started relocating them to the local pound in the same gunny sack. The pound is full of helpful people but when he took them up there he would always offer a pair of gloves to the person. When asked how he caught them he would say carefully!!!!! :IBCOOL:
