Found a great pup. 10 weeks old blond chessie. Still working on a name. Lots of master hunters in pedigree. Bought the dog from a duck hunter, chessie enthusiast and ex-military guy... He's retrieving and fitting in great. Didn't break the bank either... Feels good to be excited about a dog, not just missing my old one...

"blonde" is actually "deadgrass", I believe; unless you're getting one of those silver 'peakes I've seen pictures of.

I actually found him on the little nickel... A fellow hunter and retired army guy got into chessies because his unckle had one on his california rice farm... Apparently great hunting.... Chief, the dog, was the last of the litter and the runt.. The sire was a sedge 80lbs and the dam about 45-50lbs a brown... and I mispoke Chief is a deadgrass... This guys name was Tyson and lived near Ames lake (near Readmond Fallcity RD) got to bring the little guy with me to work... I have an "IN" with the boss.    We didn't have a name picked out when ge got him. My 4yr old thought Trixy and Swoop were good names for my male... Ya not so much... While talking about dogs from my wife and my child hood, my daughter must have latched on to Chief... My father had an Alaskan malamute he rescued with that name... So when people ask me what tribe my dog is from I reply... The Marines! OSDT Master Chief!

Do you know his pedigree? A lot of very good Chessies can be found stomping around Ca.....

I'll be registering chief with AKC so i'll get all the details.... There were like 2-3 MH for each the dam and sire i think... don't remember any of the names...  I'll let you know...

Carlson's and above Vernita. You think it may have been a Irish Water Spaniel? Poodles are not retrievers, can't play hunt AKC hunt test games. A common mistake however.
