PICS FROM TODAY! Went to the methow river. steel head

We are planning on heading over there on the 23rd. A few friends went there yesterday and brought home 4 steel head. They caught 9 total for the day. 4 keepers and 5 wild. Just wondering if any one else has been there?

I hit the mouth on the way home from Rufus yesterday. it was reallquick so didnt have much of a chance. i hear its pretty good.

 I have yet to see pics of any fish from that river. Salmon or steelhead. If you get over please post some pics.

Do they allow bait on that river?

No bait, single barbless hooks, artificial lures, the ice is gone so it should be picking up on the lower end

I heard it isn't to bad, just have watch out that you don't snag a wolf thats floatin by. , You should know the rules, know picking up anything on the endangered joke list.

For a lure maybe a guy would just use a Royal Wolf?

and 10-4 about the rivers with endagered critters and no bait. Should figured that out myself.

I don't know why. It's always been on my list of river to fish someday.

My friends went out today and caught 11 steel head today I cant wait till next sat. all the fish were wild They were using an 1/8 ounce green jig

They have been going from the mouth up. That is where they have been catching them the last few days.

most of the fish arn't up in the methow yet. there still in the columbia. you can catch them either place you just have to change how you fish for them

Fishing was awsome today. we caught 14 steel head and a 21 in Bull head trout.. We only had 3 keepers but they were nice fighting fish here are some pics.

If you head up there The WDFW is all over watching you with binoculars and waiting for you to get back to you truck to check your fish. We got checked 2 times today. They were looking for the radio tag things they put in the fishes head. and to measure your fish. My buddy forgot to put his parking pass in the windshield and got a 70 some dolor ticket. It was a fun day. These are a few fish we caught. The wildlife lady told us it is just starting to get good. Over the next few weeks she said it will only get better. She showed us a picture of an 18 lb. steel head she caught 2 days ago.

Glad to hear the Gamies are keeping an eye on the river.
Last time I was there I encountered a lot of gear violations and poaching. I chased a quite a few guys that were poaching off of the river and let WDFW know.

That's a good thing ribka.  Everybody needs to do that.  Those are the people that get this fishery shut down for the rest of us abiders...........the only good thing about all the fishing traffic on the rivers.

You might want to consider posting pictures of wild steelhead in nets and out of water, and definately the pic of the bulltrout in the net. quite a fine there and you should remove those pics immediately.

How come the wdfw made use go to knot free nets then? So we don't hurt the fish we have to keep?

So you don't harm the fish you have to release, weather a dolly, chinook, wild sheelhead, or any other that's illegal.   They actually work way better imo for getting hooks untangled.

Its legal to net a wild steelhead in a knot-free net, but it cannot be entirely removed from the water. Thats the rule. They are sticklers about it and they do monitor websites to get a gauge of how many people are still taking them out for pictures so be careful.

I thought it may be too, but then you look at the dorsal fin and it too looks like it could be part of his coat, the adipose (or where it should be) looks like the same shape of one, i may be wrong, just a suggestion if it is a native.

In most rivers, the hatchery fish are substantially smaller then the wild fish and referred to as Hatchery Brats because of their size. Common terminology on the coast. Most of these eastside rivers have hatchery fish that are direct descendants of the wild fish in that system so they are usually about the same size.
