i have a 3006 in 721. does anyone know anything about getting the manufacture date for the gun. i dont know if i am doing it right. according to my calculations it is a 1936 but on the remington site i think they did not start making them until the 40's. just hoping to get some leads from someone.

For the 721 my book says: introduced 1948, dropped 1962. That's all I know.

i went to remington society yesterday and that is where i found the info. that is a very good site. as far as i can tell it has an L E 14 on the left hand side of the barrel. on the right side it has R.E.P. a clover and a hashmark. i can see them plain as day.

I have one of those also.  I have used it for 30+ years and my dad used it before me.  Great gun used from Alaska to South Dakota.  My dad bought it in the early 50's and although the stock it beat up some the little compass is still there.  I think it is a great gun!

I got one too......300 H&H.  It was grandpas first rifle.

It was very accurate even with open sites.

i love the rifle. it was given to me when i was 17 by a man that i named my son after. i am just very curious about how old the gun really is.

Thanks for the link jackelope. As near as I can tell mine is an Oct. 1948 721. It's got a star, ETT, and a sideways looking cross on the left side. From the link E is October and TT is 1948. The right side has REP and what looks like an 8 on one side of the REP and 88 on the other side. I got the rifle from my dad when I was 14, 31 years ago, and he said it was my grandfathers. I love this gun and now I love it even more.

Rem 721 in .270 is my first rifle. Hand me down from my dad. Killed more game than any other my family owns. Great rifle...

I used the link and found out mine is a 1952.  Making it aprox. 56yrs old.   It's nice knowing the vintage and thinking about it some.  It really is a great shooting iron.  I had one fella at the range peg the round type just  by hearing it.  I was amazed.  He offered to buy it on the spot.......I refused knowing my grandfathers wish was to keep it in the family.  I'll use it to kill my next coastal Brown Bear.

i guess that i should have read a little further i believe mine is a feb 14 1958 which is weird because that my birthday is feb 14. i think that is crazy. anyway i have also had many offers for my rifle but my gun as well as you guys means way to much to me. it is priceless to me i dont think i would give it up for anything. when it was given to the gun sat in a closet for about 35 years. so the gun is about 95% or so. i have killed quite a few deer with it including my first buck. i hope people will keep sharing the rifles they have as i am very interested in hearing about these guns. i have since retired mine and replaced it in the field with some model 700's but those guns will never hold a key to my 721

Picked up a beat up 721 in 06 a number of years ago and had it rebored to 35 Whelen and dropped it into a synthetic stock.  It will shoot with the best of the modern guns.
Have a soft spot for a 722 in 300 Savage also.

Jackelope about six years ago I sent my serial # off my Model 700 264 Mag to Remington Arms to get some info. They E-Mailed me back and said it was built in the fall of 1963. I used your chart with the # stamped on the left side of the barrel DJH. On the chart it shows Sept of 1962? :dunno: :dunno:

no clue...i just googled it a while back when the question was asked and thats what i came up with. i've never even used it myself, but i have been threatening to. maybe i'll try it on my 721.
