There are a lot of buffle heads swimming around.  Could be one.  A smaller bird, but appears mainly white from a distance.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

I was going to ask size, and figured bufflehead or goldeneye.

Maybe some sort of domesticated duck that was let loose or escaped?

Oh, forget it. I don't know. I was looking at the picture curly posted of the scaup. Didn't realize satchel3006 hadn't posted a picture.

I guess he's the only one who can tell us what it was!

Ha, yeah I guess so, I just thought merganser because from a distance they look almost all white with a dark head. He needs to gives us more of a description, like bill color and length.

it might of been a merganser i saw a bunch flying (there not legal to shoot are they?) but the ones i saw were all black i did however see a few of the white birds with black heads take off on the water they kinda ran? on the water before they really got airborne if that makes since. this waterfowl thing is really additive cant wait for next year just need to get better at identifying ducks

Yes you can shoot mergansers. You should shoot every merganser you see, until you get your 7, they taste great by the way. :P Most diving ducks will sort of run on the water as they take off because of their smaller wings.
