Cut-throat sport anymore!!!!
« on: February 16, 2010, 09:38:30 AM »
I love getting out and enjoying my time off. Dont get me wrong I love to find a shed now and then too. My kids are big enough now for a few hour hike here and there and love it.

Why is there such a competetion between most people? I know the big horn is what we are all after but to take it to the extremes of pissing off freinds? Kinda sad.

Anyone ever told their buddy they were heading out for a Friday and Saturday and then find out that that buddy is going to skip work(school) for two days before you go just to make sure he gets to look it all over first? Man, I am not that kind of person. In fact I am pretty willing to share my locations when a freind asks.

Maybe I need to start keeping my mouth shut from now one. Its just too bad.

I know way too many people who think they have to make a competition out of everything and I just don't get it. On the other hand I have no problem keeping some of my honey holes a secret.

Keeping a honey hole is one thing, I have no problems with that. I have a few, they suck but I have a few.  :chuckle:

I'm not pissed off, I just think it is funny how it works. I dont hold a grudge, the guy is just that competitive and I am not.   :dunno: There are plenty of other places to go.

I don't have any friends that I would have to worry about that happening with, and I also wouldn't feel the need to keep any honey holes of any kind from my friends.  To me good friends are more important than some sheds or a good hunting spot.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

That's not cool, especially if he knew you were taking your kids.
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Ok, but still not very cool.  I think I would mess with the guy.  Tell him you are going somewhere you're not to keep him busy.

"Hey dude!  Did you see the 180" buck hanging out in the woodline behind Walmart?!  I just saw him again yesterday and he's dropped!  I'm going out there on Saturday!!"

Your right about that - when it comes down to my true friends and family I know I don't have anything to worry about. But I have a few acquaintances that have very large mouths that I do not trust with my huntin spots. The guys I trust are the ones that I am already hunting with.

For me if I am shown a hunting spot or anything I do not go back to that spot unless the person who showed it to me is present, or they say go ahead and hunt it when you want.  The only hunting spots I like to keep to myself is the ones close to home which are farmer's fields.  These are places I "hunt" only to fill my freezer cause I prefer to hunt deer in wild situations.  Our "spot" in eastern WA is not a secret either, everyone else hunts there also.  The secret is going up the mountain every day and hunting it.  I enjoy showing people how to hunt and where to go.  Most people seem obsessed to the point of not wanting to keep friends anymore.  I've not killed a deer in the last two years with my own gun but with my kids.  Heck they are filling our freezer also, I don't need to pull the trigger to get the enjoyment out of it.  I did find an old blacktail shed while building a trail for horseback riding.  It probably would have scored around 90 or so.  It was a 3 point shed with 2 inch eye guards, did not find the match.  It is a treasure but I don't need hundreds of them.  We call the trail blacktail loop.  Found the shed, some bedding areas and lots of deer scat.  Good potential for hunting this fall.  Also saw a doe with white spots on the lower half of the hind quarter.  I'd still love to do a hunt where you pack all your stuff in to where no one else goes and hunt with only one ther person and little to no pressure.  Can always dream.

He is a very charmed shed hunter, ok he is good. He would find a horn if I did that and I would be even more pissed.  :chuckle:

Well, you are just going to have to flatten his tires then.  No one carries 4 spares...

OK OK OK. Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. So what.

We have worked it out. Now shed hunting is not cut-throat anymore, it is a soap opera.  :chuckle: :chuckle:

Sounds like it was all a bad misunderstanding and just a coincidence.

It still brings out the worst in some people.

Anyway, my bad.
