How do you know if...
« on: February 26, 2010, 11:02:23 AM »
... your .357mag will shoot .38 special? I have a Ruger Security Six in .357mag, but that ammo is getting pretty expensive to shoot. Not to mention it's not the most comfortable to shoot. I'd like to shoot .38's in it at the range for those reasons but i don't know if it's something i can do. I'm mostly concerned about safety but also don't want to harm the gun.

No problem at all, the .357mag was born out of the .38 special, same bullet diameter, the .38 OAL is just a bit shorter, hence you can put .38's in a .357 and should not ever be able to put .357 in a gun chambered for a .38 nor should you ever try.

To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Yes it will.  I am unaware of any .357 revolver than can not shoot 38's.  Not saying there is not one built in azerbyshabichinakoreaasiastan that can not, but your gun in particular will have no issue.

Well the 357 mag bullets would fit in the cylinder of a gun built specifically for 38 special, the cylinder just wouldn't close.

I as well am unaware of any handgun that is chambered for 357magnum that you can't shoot 38 special loads in.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
You are never to old to learn something stupid.

Correct, the cylinder on a .38 specific gun should not be able to be closed with .357 loaded into it.
