its funny to consider the torrential weather, waves, currents, etc I'd take a boat in for duck hunting... and consider the big game that we see in the wilderness while chasing turkeys. Sleeping among bears, wolves, pissed off Meese, etc... And yet these tiny little critters bug us more than anything. this thread made me throw up a little in my mouth 

Ticks are icky.

  Did you say Meece?.. I love it, is that moose plural?

There be ticks here on the wet side also....  I have seen them in the Tenino and Rochester areas. 

We were shocked this last fall when our Rooseys were covered in ticks. My boyfriend caped his bull and sold the cape in exchange/partial payment for a euro mount... and when we got to the shop there was over a hundred ticks crawling on the hide and in the sack.. so much for a tick-free elk season!

I've pulled two ticks off my dog in the last couple of weeks and we've only been around home. This isn't normal. Very seldom have my dogs picked up ticks from this side of the mountains. I'm afraid it's going to be a terrible year for ticks even over here. I'm curious to see how covered in ticks the deer and elk are going to be this fall.

I still have a lump on the back of my head at the hairline where my mom was trying to get a tick out by using a match to heat it so it would back away.  She burned up the tick but it left its head in there....

That seems like a hard way to get a tick out. I just grab them with tweezers and pull slowly. Course I've never had to pull one out of myself, only my dogs. I'm thinking this might be the year though.  

Man reading these stories makes me not event want to go turkey hunting.. WHat do we do  .. I love to turkey hunting so much but with these little *censored* eating people it gives me the willies...  ..

I thought about doing some turkey hunting this year, but this makes the decision easy. No way am I going turkey hunting! Hunting turkeys involves too much time sitting still and giving them time to dig in. Not gonna do it. Course bear hunting may be just as bad.

That's the best method of extraction. Just make sure you get them by the head with the tweezers or as close to it as you can. Burning them off causes them to regurgitate part of their digested meal/ some sort of fliud back into your bite and can cause problems. Same with pinching them with the tweezers too far from the head or treating them with oils/chemicals  to drown them like I've heard happens sometimes.

ticks ssuck lol i get an eary feelin and wanna scracth all day after seein one lol, one trip shed huntin bout a month ago resulted in a buddy who found two ticks on him and six or eight on his dog and sero for me thank u 100% deet

I don't think my mom was planning on actually burning it, just heat it to get it to back away.  That was pretty standard 35+ years ago when this happened.    

There are little tools like one called "ticked off".  I bought a couple of these two years ago after getting into ticks down by White Salmon.  Did not have to worry about it last year due to all the snow....
