Calling for Bears in the Spring

Are you usually more successful calling for bears in the spring or summer? I'm looking to purchase a call for spring bear. Anyone know any good calls that I can purchase? Thanks.

I like spring ,wish the spring hunt was untill the end of june...later in the spring season a bear cub sound can get ya one...when the boars are in the breed mode,thats can work well...Jackrabbit call made to sound like a fawn....If ya get sometime off during the week let me know,I will scream a few sets for ya...

I am more successfull in the fall, but then again I spend more time calling then.

Burnham Brothers makes some great calls that you can find at most sporting good stores and we have some great custom call makers here.

The April edition of NW Sportsman has an article on calling bears.

This is just my personal opinion but spring time calling is quite a bit more successful, at least for me.  The bears really put a hurtin on calves and fawns and if you are in known calving areas and use a calf or fawn in distress it can be quite effective. Doesn't happen everytime so don't get discouraged.  Call NON-STOP or very nearly NON-STOP for 45 min to an hour.  Put a watch out in front of you, one so you can keep track of the time (trust me calling that way for 20 minutes, seems like an hour) and two so they can at least know where to start the search for your body.

lol,had one that was gut shot walk up from behind and dam near brushed up against me,he turned a few feet past me and put his front feet on a log and stared at me..Boom...dead blk bear..Huge bear put him whole on my pack and walk out LOL..A guy back at camp thought I brought back just the head and hide..I laughed no ahole this is the whole bear....

anyone use electronic calls for spring bear.  I have a foxpro I use for yotes that I bought on here from Killbilly a while back.  If so,  fawn seems to work the best?

Selling my Foxpro when I get back from Michigan. Hand calls are much better. I'll be using  der sound's open and closed Reed. Elk sound's openreed. and bear cub closed Reed. Will be using my new production call's. Will be calling cougar this Fall also with Hand call's. working on a new cough call for chirping. Came across a reed that works great. Was way more succesful when I used hand calls. Rick

I find that calving and fawning come more towards the end of spring. The beginning of spring is when the bears are wanting to eat lots of grass and get rid of the plug. It seems that their senses are not fully tuned to distress and eating meat yet. That is my experience and only an opinion.
