Have first dibbs on buying a Chinese made SKS. Vietnam era made. I haven't seen the weapon yet. If it's in decent shape I think I'll probably buy it. The guy wants $250 for it. What think ya'll??? I thought that if the stock was REALLY dinged and messed up but the action and barrel were in real good shape then I could use it as a project gun and really pimp it out with aftermarket stock and things.

About the only thing I've heard about them is that they got a lousy Heat Treatment in manufacturing. So you may or may not have much accuracy. But if it's just a fun gun/plinker that may not matter.

Thats a decent price, but it was better in 1991 when I was working a gun shop and they were $69.      :chuckle:

I have Chinese SKS carbine.  I've had it for about 15 years.  It's in great condition and a reliable shooter.  Since buying it, I've polished the bolt, dropped it into a synthetic stock and installed an American made 10 round mag.  Haven't shot it in years, but it's a fun little plinker.

The Norinco SKS paratrooper is a great carbine. Milled trigger group and milled gas/piston tube is what you're looking for in an SKS.

Duckaholic, Nice looking setup!! That's pretty much what I have in mind for this one if the stock is in bad shape but the action and barrel are in good condition. Thanks for the picture!!

Depends if it's milled or stamped... and what condition.  If milled and barrel/cycling is good, then prob a good deal.  If stamped and has seen a-lot of use, then I'd pass for something newer and in better condition.

Milled or stamped, both are pretty reliable guns. Remember, they are Ruskie designed, so they work.  Great little deer guns.
