With all the talk of shed hunting the opener around Oak Creek, why not post them so we can see what all the fuss is over.

Come on guys, post them up.

Well, I went to the Joe Watt area which is just a smaller version of Oak Creek.  I walked around for about eight hours and found a respectable five-point elk and a two-point deer.

Someone's hunting blind.

Great find from Joe Watt, surprised you even found that one.  Shed hunting is becoming an ever so popular thing to do...it's an easter egg hunt for adults.  I had a friend go up there on saturday said he was in some great areas but never found a shed.  Him and I have played by the rules and have picked up sheds this year from other locations near joe watt but outside the boundaries.  It is getting worse up there every year, I hear multiple stories of people picking the feeding lots clean before they open them.  I can only imagine what i would say to someone if i ran into them in there before it were opened to the public for access.  Something needs to be done to enforce the "rules", or lack there of.

I stopped by oak creek yesterday around 1430 after I shed hunted elsewhere. There were a few raghorns people were showing off in front of there horse trailers. Nothing big. I talked to one of the guys that runs the visiting area and he said there werent many horns brought out this year. He did say that two guys came out at about 8am with 50 sheds a piece and the warden gave them both fines. So that was good and bad to hear. Its to bad all those idiots sneak in there and ruin the fun for others. The sheriff I talked to up there said they raised the tresspassing fee from $200 to $2,000 dollars this year and there trying to take away hunting privileges from people who get caught in there. So that should stop a few people from going in there next year.

I heard that since Eyes In The Woods has been helping out the last couple years in monitoring for the early shoppers.  It has slowed down these midnight shoppers.  I realize that they cannot be everywhere, but they did catch a couple guys sneaking in at 5 am.  Don't know the outcome of that encounter, plus they have pictures of a couple more that they were unable to make contact with. It's to bad that hunting sheds has become so competitive that people feel that they need to sneak in and ruin it for others.  Sooner or later these bad apples will be weened out.  I think a min. of $2,000 fine is a start, hit these Jerks in the wallet and hard.  Loosing hunting privileges for a couple years would be good to.

yeah bum crap, happens every year. yeah 2000.00 is a good start but they can sell the 100 horns they got for more them that easy and it was only probably part of what they already have got

I don't know why people go to such lengths for sheds these days.  The prices I've seen are no better than what they offered in the 1980's when I started.  Sure, a big set would demand a good price for a taxidermist, but I don't know of anyone who is buying in bulk these days.  The eastern market has dried because of the CWD scare, but if anyone knows better let me know because I have some I'd like to sell.  I had to move recently and the effort of packing sheds and moving them to storage takes the fun of owning a pile.

I took a first timer up Joe Watt (my wife has been bugging me not to go alone, also it is more fun with to go with someone). First we looked around up top in the flats - very little fresh sign. Then I told him we should hike through a steep knarley ravine to get to other south facing side. He complained a bit but once over there he found his first - a nice little 5-6#, 6 point. I found a nice little 3 point ( good burr anyway). After about 3 hours his feet were soar so we had to stop. I was ready to hike 3 - 4 more hours but being a gentlemen I said O.K. & we drank a couple cold beers & sat around awhile before rolling out.
Fun day but if he wants to go again he is going to have to prepare for a full day on the move.

Will post pics once I figure out how,

I was at Joe Watt, too.  Was the eighteenth or nineteenth car in line.  Everyone zooms up the draw, I just park at the bottom and walk up.  I wish I could be ten places at once.  Wished I could have been were I found my antler at first light, but I would have missed all the country in between.  Haven't had much success in the last three years.  I am happy if I find one on the opener.
Ridge Roamer...I live in Issaquah, too.  Maybe next year.

I was at Oak Creek on Sat. There was a good amount of people there. Only found one 5 point rag and my buddy a 6 with a couple of deer sheds. I'll might try a different spot next year to get away from the people.
