Sturgeon Today (5/8)
« on: May 08, 2010, 09:39:44 PM »
Talked my dad into going sturgeon fishing with me today. He had to be back for some other stuff so we just fished until about 1:30pm. The weather was awesome with basically no wind. Started out kind of slow, but we ended up boating around 20 fish with 1 keeper and about 3-4 others that were just shy. My dad also hooked one that was probably a keeper, but it bent the hook out.

we got a guide a few years back down on the columbia, that was the first and only time I went, but it was an almost for sure thing to get into them with a guide. we did well. I can't wait to start chasing them in the sound.

I have been out the last three saturdays fishing them and the first day we landed 10 and had our two keepers by 12:30. The second saturday we landed 28 and got one keeper by 2pm fishing two rods, and then this last saturday was the 20 fish day with my dad. Can't wait for friday!

did you find a good hole down on the big C or just figure out the right rigging/bait setup?

The hole I'm fishing is no secret, IMO, but I still see a lot of boats not fishing it right. I will say that I have found a bait/scent combo that has been producing well.

And I definitely am not the one who "found" the hole, but I have been fishing there for the last 15 years or so.  :)

Is the taste of the bait worth the sting of the hook twice?
