T/C northwest explorer

I just bought a new T/C Northwest Explorer muzzle loader.After many years of hunting with an old knight rifle I have retired it.I can't wait shoot it this weekend.Does any one have one of these guns?

there is a few guys that have them but not to many. that gun has a very slow rate of twist and is not that great with todays modern sabots and conicales if you do a search at the top you might find them or just look threw the muzzleloader section good luck

I would like to have one. I'll be very interested in hearing how it shoots, and what bullets it prefers. I don't think you'll have a problem finding an accurate load.

I think i am the only other guy that has one on this site so far    it shoots fine with power belts the couple of times i have shot it. I'm probably gonna try and get back out there this weekend and get her dialed in a little better. i really like how easy it is to clean though.

Just bought one for my late Teanaway bull hunt.  Going with a 295gr bullet with 90gr of 777.  Haven't hunted with a muzzy for about 15 years, a lot has changed since then.  Going to be fun!

should be fun play around with diffrent powder weights and bullets and find what works best for you and your gun.

I'm returning mine.  The start key holing at 100 or more yard because of the slow twist rate with the new sabots and that's what I want to shoot.

I decided against purchasing it because of the twist rate and picked up a barley used Knight Bighorn last Tuesday.  Very interested on how things turn out for ya...please keep us posted.....Thanks

Im going with 100grn 777 and the Hornady 300grn sabot outa my bighorn. I'll post pics of my targets so you see how mines shootin with that combination!

I'm hearing the same elsewhere about the 1:48 twist.  I'm half temped to take it back before I shoot and get a Knight Bighorn.  That's the other gun I wanted and if I had done more research I don't think I would have purchased the T/C Northwest Explorer.  I just figured I couldn't go wrong with a Thomson Center gun.

Exact thinking I was under.  But tommorrow mine is definetly going back I bought it two days ago and havent shot it.  There is only one bighorn available locally but shannon said I could borrow his so I may go that route.

I actually have a wolverine that i might sell if anybody is inerested. Camo stock stainless barrel. Nice compact gun, good back up if anything, brandnew. I just dont shoot it.

I don't think you would have any problems finding a bullet to shoot in that 1 in 48 twist. Take a look at this chart:

In general, the lighter/shorter bullets will shoot best with the 1 in 48 twist.

I was on paper with mine at 50yds and was about a four inch group without even adjusting the new tru glo globe sights that i just got for it . i was using 90gr of app jsg and 295gr pb . carpsniperg2 is right about those sights their awesome.

i have always said that about the gun even before it was put out when i read about it. to slow of twist rate for what 90% of the people here are wanting to shoot. there is a few old posts with me arguing with superdown about the rate of twist

100 grn 777 and the 300grn Hornady is What im using!

I'm using Barns TMZ 290 grains with 120 grains of powder.  Shoots about a 2 inch group at 100 yards with my TC Black Diamond, but there a pain to load.  I forced my buddie to shoot the same bullet in his Big Horn and now he's addicted, they load much easier for him!
