30-06 for me. I think it's the best overall hunting round for North America. Although if we were talking SHTF gun I'd say .308 b/c of the amount of govt ammo out there  for it.

 :)for target work I would go 308 because that is a very popular target round and there are  lots of target quality rifles around and great target ammo.
For hunting I'd go 30/06 because the 06 with a 180 grain is a known deadly combination, the 06 shoots this load slightly faster than the 308.
neither has any real disadvantage.

i love my ot 6 i would recommend any hunter to get one. there the ideal gun and like said above with 180 grains it makes a deadly combination.

I voted 30-06, but it depends. If I wanted a short, light rifle, then I'd rather have the 308. But in a standard weight hunting rifle (around 7 lbs) i'd take the 30-06. I think with a lighter rifle, the 308 would be an advantage due to less recoil.
