Clarry Pellet Stove?
« on: June 10, 2010, 07:48:19 PM »
Anybody have any experience with these, or know someone that has? I was hoping for some feedback before I pull the trigger on this.
Thanks for any help.

Cool stove.  Are you looking for a new stove or do you own one already?

Nothing cheap about them, but my vacation is for hunting, not cutting wood.

With that statement I can see we are 180 degrees opposite. I'm too cheap to tie myself into buying the fuel when I can gather it for sweat and elbow grease. A fella has to do what they feel comfortable with so buy it and don't look back.

I'm sure they probably work good but they cost twice what I paid for my tent  :yike:  I would think the cylinder stove with pellet feed package would give more versatility (burn wood or pellets) but that's just me.  Best of luck and let us know how it works if you do order one.

Exactly what I was going to get at.  Why limit yourself to only pellets?  The last thing you want to do is haul a ton of pellets around unless you are camping in a Walmart parking lot.  In the video they said they get an 8 hour burn out of a 40 lb. bag, I get 12-14 hours out of a 40 lb. bag with mine.  I would go with the cylinder stove if I were you. :twocents:

Not to thread jack, but BC Chaser, is that the Hunter stove from Cylinder?  What size tent are you using it in with the pellet feeder?  I have a 12 x 14 tent and the Hunter stove and am planning on adding the pellet feeder before hunting season.  I have burned wood but I really like the idea of having a consistent burn using pellets.  Most of my hunts are 4-5 days so taking that many bags of pellets is doable and supplementing with wood if/when needed.

BC, I have considered that option. Seemed like people were having issues getting a consistant burn/feed from the "attachment" or conversion kits. It would appear you have had good luck with your system?

I added the cylinder stove pellet attachment to my stove but not sure if it puts out enough heat for real cold weather!

Yellow dog, I have a 16X20 and as far as the stove its the largest one they make.  The reason people were having problems with the feed is that they were not doing two very important things. I was one of these people, first is you have to make sure the seal between the hopper and pellet feed is air tight.  They should have sent you some rubber heat seal with the attachment.  Make sure you get a good solid bead all the way around and then run your knife around it to separate them.  I have used mine a dozen times since and have not had to reseal it.  Also get a good burn going before you go to bed and pull a bunch of pellets into it and let it burn for an hour.  Shut the stove damper down ALL THE WAY and open your flu up all the way.  If you do not have it shut your burn will not last.  It does take some time getting your optimal burn down but with a few nights you will get it right.  It does make some real weird sounds during the night as well.  Anything from a jet flying over to voices whispering.  Make sure your pellets are 100% dry too, if not and they look as if they have swelled throw them out.

I purchased one of these stoves a couple of years ago used it one year then went back to my homemade woodstove. I like my stove to burn 24/7 you only get 8 hours with the clarry. You have to clean the grate daily, and it seems that after you clean the grate it works well but the longer it burns the less heat it puts out, 70 degrees when we would go to bed abought 38 degrees when we would get up. In our 16x20 tent wood works better sleep on top of sleeping bag and burn as long as 29 hours. Save your money clarry pellet stoves are worth about 1/3 what they ask for them.

i made my own, it looks lake a clarry, but there are several differences. you can clean the ash plate while the stove is burning. i used 9 or 10 bags. it was very efficient. in my 10X12 tent, if i left it burning all night i had to open the window. i even baked a pizza on it.
