Cub size question
« on: June 13, 2010, 03:54:25 PM »
While trying to help a member here try to get his spring bear we ran across two sets of sows with twins that we got a good look at. The cubs were noticably diffrent in size. The first sow had 1st year cubs born this winter and one of them was half again as big as it's sibling. The other pair were yearlings and they were again very different in size. The yearlings were both pretty good size and I'm quite sure they'll be booted this year but I had no idea that cubs were so different in size.

Is this normal?

Is this due to one being male and one female?

What say you?

The two 1st year cubs were pretty small and the smaller of the two was tiny and pretty ratty looking. Cute little dudes though. Sure wish I would have got some decent pics. All I got good pics of were poo and tracks.  :bash:

Anyways, tell me what you think.

Oh, no bear down. Passed on two smallies. And just didn't get lucky enough to get a good shot at a good bear. Did see 23 in all, I'm sure some were double sightings. They seemed to hang out in there own little areas. Hell of a good time and a lot of sign and sightings but sometimes it doesn't work out.

Greedy little buggers!!!

Here's a not so good pic of the little raggedy one. He was about the size of a Healer. I was only 35-40 yards away.

We really did have a great time. He and his dad are a class act too. I Guaranteed one of them would get a bear in this unit if they drew and they did draw so I had a lot of pressure. The first night we were 200ish (can't remember) from a 4-4 1/2 footer and watched him for 10-15 minutes but he elected to pass. Then that Sunday he passed on a little cinnamon and saw a big pig that didn't give a good shot. So in my book I fulfilled my guarantee. Anyways. It sure was a great time. Hope I get drawn next year.

The bad thing about this spot is that the bears kind of disappear in the fall. They are few and far between and I just can't seem to figure them out.  :bash:  I'll be hitting this spot hard this Sept though. WOOHOOOOOOO!!!!

Here's another poor excuse for a pic. We saw these three several times. The sow was HUGE and her cuts were pretty big too. This was shot through my zen rays at 5-600 yards I'd geuss.

Now that I sit here thinking about this hunt I sure wish I'd have taken more pics. Here's some poo and tracks. The track by the CZ was pretty good. We saw some old tracks that were huge, I thought I took pics but guess I didn't. I'd love to run across it this fall.

Let me tell you Gutpile is a A1 guide. We had a great tiem and were in no way disapointed.

Before agreeing to hunt with Mark I had looked at his bears and knew a big bear was not a guarante. :chuckle:

The one big bear I has I swear was the size of my ATV. :yike:
