Matt is right.  The elk herd is not at all what it used to be.  Just look at the amount of cow tags they are giving out in that area this year, or should I say lack of cow tags.

I've been looking at maps and the whole thing looks good, but what area do you guys think a person should consentrate on more the Bumping or the Nile.  :dunno:

The WDFW swung the pendulum to far in the wrong direction and now they are trying to bring it back.  As little as 6 years ago they said there were too many elk in the Yakima herd and needed to reduce (increased branch and cow permits) and now they say there are not enough.  This is probably has some validity to it but they are still a lot of elk in the unit.  You couldn't see most of them if they depended on an areial survey.  They need to get out and walk around a bit.

bumping is a little rougher country and a bit more limited on campinng from what i remember but i have only hunted it a handful of times
the nile is alot more cover alot of ground friendly with alot of acess to alot of country  anywhere from 2000 ft. to 6000 ft early season for the most part the elk prefer 4000 to 6000 foot cool holes 5 to 6000 ft. you start getting into alot of spring filled medows that are hard to resist mid sept in 80 + degree wether
i think that the bumping area is a bit higher with more access to wilderness areas but like i said i am not real familiar with it
if ya decide the nile let me know i can probably give ya some decent input
SEE YA IN THE FIELDS

They have started logging off wildcat rd.  The pictures of mine off my trail cam are from that area if you want to check them out.  I am heading back up this Saturday and will post more.

I've hunted Goose Prairie for archery for the last 6 or 7 years and I think there are more elk now than ever ! Maybe I'm just seeing more because of knowing the area better. I used to only see groups of 2 - 5 elk at a time but the last couple of years I have had herds of 25 passing by me during the season. I think the numbers are up, I think there are so many elk that I am actually thinking of hunting for spike only and pretty confident of filling my tag. My  :twocents: . Mike

i wonder if because Bumping is spike only for the OTC folks, that it will still offer good odds if everyone packs up and moves to Little Naches.  I live in Spokane and tried east of Pend O'rielle river last year and couldn't shake the hunters so i'm headed either to Bumping or LN to give this a try.  I like the idea of shooting a branch bull, but prefer the solitude of hunting wilderness vs. the 4 wheelers whizzing by you all the time.
Rather be in the woods.
