the only bear i'v taken was round about 430 yards. before you jump on me, this bear had an arrow in his face. i would not have taken the shot at that range and risked wounding. just thought i owed it to the bear to try and put it outa its missery. all came out well in the end. if your missing a carbon storm with g5 montec on it and you shot it at a bears face last year 30aug near elbow cullie in twisp. i have your arrow.

I've killed 8 bears, the farthest one has been 15 yards.  The closest has been about 7 yards.

Majority have been within 30 yards (5 black bears), using 300 Wthrby Mag, factory 180gr/Nosler Partition.

On Vancouver Island last year it was 80 yards, 340 Wthrby, factory 210gr/Nosler Partition.

Thanks guys, he was a fighter with the head wound that had healed and slightly rubbed on his hind quarter, but a good representative bear at 6'6".

and one with a 44 mag pistol.

first one i ever killed was off a bait and he was directly below my "tree stand" about 12 feet away....I was perched between a couple trees in Colville in October of 1992 stradling two 2x4's and he is still my biggest bear to date...I can still hear him breathing as he stood directly below me...will never forget that moment...sun was setting and shafts of sunlight caught him and the skeeters flying all around me...awesome...thats why I hunt

Four were out of a treestand over bait, three were called in (two with a rifle and one with a bow) and one was shot with my bow while watching an elk wallow.

The 3 footer was back when I was a teenager. We had found a den the year prior. some friends got shots at a big chocolate sow that left the den while elk hunting and we figured she'd be back next year. The next year I hiked in to take a peak inside and see if she was home. The den was just a dug out hole under a dead fall that she had also carved out. Sure enough, when I peeked in, there she was. It took me quite a while to figure out how to shoot and finally I decided a hip shot would have to do. The scary part was reaching in there to get her, It was real dark in there and I couldn't see if she was dead or not. Luckily she was. She was a real old, dry sow close to 300lbs.

Farthest about 150 yards, closest about 15-20'. The closest walked out of the brush right on top of me, was a #400er. 4 bears total for me that I have brought home.

I've shot five bears and I would say looking back that 4 of them were around 150 yards the other was around 50. I have had a lot of opportunities at longer range shots but I like to keep my shots as close as possible on bears.

Ive only gotten 2 and they were both archery shots. First was about 10 yards, second was about 25. There has been a couple times where I heard a bear in a brushy spot making all kinds of noise eating cascara and I sat the edge of the brush waiting for him to come out and then had the noise go silent and so Id sneak back a little ways away to wait for a shot and have him silently pop out within a few feet of where I was standing before.  :yike: Would have made for some very close shots. Uncomfortably close!
