Wind River Late Buck
«
on:
June 25, 2010, 06:49:57 PM »
Just drew this tag, but really don't know alot about the area. I've hunted Bickleton Ridge and Goldendale before, but not his far west. Anyone out there willing to share some good places to go to get a good buck?
I've read some stuff on this forum that makes it hard to know about the deer patterns because they migrate in after the regular season. So scouting now and then may not help. I am planning an elk hunt on Bethel Ridge, so plan to go down and scout alittle after that.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Do a search in the archives. I think a father/son combo scored some nice bucks out of that hunt last year.

rackattack, thanks I've searched and found alittle. Just beating the bushes again to see if anything else would jump out.
ELKBURGER, thanks I never thought about lots of rain. Figured it would be dryer like the rest of eastern WA.
tonymoe, PM coming your way. Thanks for the offer.
Anyone else have any ideas? Or pics of some bad boys taken out of that area? I'm getting kinda jazzed about the prospects.

Think, crest trail. Not alot of open areas to shoot there, so you will have to hunt for them. We were up there in the snow last year and saw more deer track then elk track.

That hunt used to straddle the Elk season. Does it now? Think potential for nasty Weather! Be prepared.
Sending PM.

It will rain and then rain some more. With any luck it will be cold enough for snow up higher. Hunted that unit every year for 23 years until they made the late hunt a permit. I'll do what I can to help you out. We've taken some very impressive blacktails out of there.

I've been in there with 70mph winds and rain/sleet/snow and bone chilling temps in November listening to trees snap off mid-way in the dead of night hoping that last one wasn't the one to crash through the camp trailer. Woke up one morning to see a guys camp, a nice 5th wheeler, surrounded by fallen BIG timbers. Chain saws were buzzing that morning!
But hey.. Go a week early and hunt Elk while looking for that big buck that's come down. Sorry, Bear season will end before that late buck season. There's bruins in that unit too.
