S&W 329 Airlite 44mag
« on: June 26, 2010, 06:03:43 PM »
I've been looking for a better pack pistol, and the Airlite weighing in at only 26oz seems to be what I'm looking for.
Does anybody own one and have any info on this pistol?
can it handle heavy loads?

Its probably the same model Airlite is the correct name.

I found some good reviews on it   http://www.gunblast.com/SW329PD.htm

Looks like the only bad thing I could find on the Airlite was about when shooting hot loads that the cases have a tendency to be hard to get out of the cylinder.

Another pistol I'm looking at is the Taurus Tracker SS 44mag 4" barrel 35oz and is half the price of the S&W.

I have the 329pd and had the 450ti tauraus. the 329 has unmatched build quality, is truly capeable of 100yd hits on deer sized targets and kicks like the 3rd mule trying to get on the arc. I love mine......a lot. never waste your money on crimson trace grips for it. I did. it was unbearable.

the 450 ti bucked so hard it would pull he bullets out of the case and lock the cylinder up. that was using the lee factory crimp die to boot. that thing is over the top. it is good if you hav efriends with big mouths though....lol.

I pack my 329 50:1 over all the other pistols I have when in big toothed critter country, and I have plenty of choices to pick from.

I have a 340 M&P. I think its basically the same but instead its a .357 mag and hammerless. I carry it everywhere. Why not? Its only 13 oz's loaded with .357 critical defense. Mine has the crimson grips too. Yeah I agree with high country, probably not worth the extra money. The action is what you would expect from a Smith, sweeet. The only downfall is it lacks firepower as it only holds 5 rounds and yes it hurts really really bad when shooting it and they are spendy :chuckle:

Great gun for sure, used to pack with it on hunt, super light for sure, but will having thinking "why the heck did I get this gun" when shooting...  It is so light you keep patting your holster to ensure it is still there...  Excellent pack gun.......  I now have the Alaskan 629, same exact set up except stainless steel, no where as light as the 329 but when your shooting it doesn't bite you.  Best of both worlds would be to have both... :chuckle:
