Shoot 3 Deer in WA article
« on: June 27, 2010, 04:30:04 PM »
Are you kidding me!!?? Did anybody else get the impression that you are allowed to harvest a Blacktail, Whitetail and Mulie in Washington...when you read the new "Trifecta" article in the new Washington Game and Fish? How innacurate is that! Does it not basically say that general season tags are unlimited so all you have to do is declare a weapon for each species and buy 3 tags? Not true! Right? Or should I try to buy 2 more deer tags? Am I ripping the guy who wrote it? ABSOLUTLY! If I'm wrong I'll eat my hat and immediatly go buy 2 more deer tags. Can we also hunt Rosies and Rock Mountain Elk in the same season. I may have put some serious BS in my articles over the past few years but I've never been this wrong.

Was he referring to the new three deer raffle hunt?

I think he was saying that you can hunt all three in the same year.

I am sure the article is about the raffle permit.

You can if you get drawn for the raffle permit.

Why would you write an article for 1 person?

I didn't read the article I just saw the cover. My initial thought was that in WA you have the opportunity to hunt all three....not that you get to take all three. I will take a look when I get home from work...I agree its misleading but usually magazine headlines tend to be that way.

You can hunt all 3 with an OTC tag.  But can only harvest one.

It specifically refers to WA as (and I'm paraphrasing): ...a state where you can put all three species on the wall, in the same year.

"But the opportunity to put three deer species on the wall from the same state is a unique challenge all but beyond the reach of hunters outside the Pacific Northwest."

The two quotes that are confusing for me are:

"The trifecta of trophy-deer hunting - the rare chance for taking tall-racked mulies, whitetails and blacktails all in one season and one place- is your in the Evergreen State."

"and for every deer tag you buy, you must declare the type of hunting you will engage in - muzzleloader, modern gun or archery - and fill that tag by your declaration."

Nowhere in the article did i find where it said you could kill all 3 in the same season.  But these two quotes make it sound like you can.

I re-read the article today. I think it's just vague, and the title on the cover leads to the confusion.

I read it too and thought it was vague.  I read it hoping it would explain  how I could do this in 2010. :IBCOOL:  Let's hope some nimrods do not go out and shoot 3 on the same tag, due to an article.   :bash:

Haven't read the article but looking at the regs, thats not legal. The only way it would be legal is to get drawn for a 3 deer raffle. On pages 17, 18, and 19 of the regs, it clearly states the bag limit to be one deer during the hunting season unless you draw a 2nd deer permit. And on page 20 under deer permits at the top of the page it states only 1 deer may be taken per hunter during the hunting season except for successful 2nd deer permit applicants.

The thought of buying another license/tag isnt possbile. Go online and try to, if you already bought your licenses and tags, there isn't an option to buy any tags for any animal you have already have bought.

I'll admit I didn't read the entire article, just skimmed over it, but it sounds like this guy doesn't have a clue. It is very misleading. What a joker.
