Magellen Triton 400 GPS
« on: May 12, 2009, 10:29:47 PM »
I just picked one up at Joe's for $85. I feel like it is a pretty good buy but i have some questions. I hunt the bumping GMU, will it still work up there? Also, does anyone have any experience with Magellen. If so, where is the best place to find good maps? thanks!

I had one and really liked it. Had to take it back and exchange it for a Garmin though. The Triton I bought wouldn't link up with windows vista. Maybe they fixed the software now. All in all I really liked it but wanted to download some topo stuff.

$85 is a steal on that unit.

Yes it will work in the Bumping GMU, just as well as it will work in any other GMU in the state, or anywhere in the world.

If your going to buy maps I would go to Cabellas. Only because they are the only store I know of that will let you return software.

I got the same gps a few months ago, it works fine with Vista. I loaded some good maps from the topo-explorer web site.

I bought mine right after they came out. They must have fixed the software.

$85!

I got mine today at joe for $99.

after some searching I'm having fun with a program called gmapmaker and tritonrmp (http://damiendebin.net/archives/gMapMaker/ and http://www.msh-tools.com/triton.html)

got a rough sat view of chuckanut, working at downloading a better one right now... pretty dang neat. (gotta zoom it to where to scale is at 300 feet for it to show)

heck, with as awesome as this is we should probably make a thread for freeware gps software.

https://www.magellangps.com/store/promotions/topo_pick.asp

free topo map with a magellan gps if you got it between someday and someother day.

I was having issues getting this to work on my puter, had to manually download the zip file the program was trying to download, then let to program unzip it.
