Lost my archery spot on Whidbey Island!!!
« on: July 12, 2010, 10:58:47 AM »
I was all excited for archery season because I know there are several good bucks still on the property I hunted last year.  I told the lady who owned the property that I would help her do some stuff around the yard this summer.  Well she fell in love and moved in with some guy.  The guy who owns it now isn't a big fan of hunters.  She is a real nice lady, so I am happy for her, but I wanted to cry when she told me  :'(.  I shot a real nice buck there last year and was hoping for the same (or better) this year.  My 9 year old is taking hunter ed in a couple weeks so I was hoping to take him there also.  He's never been deer hunting and is really excited to go this year.  Oh well, I guess it's back to the drawing board.

I know the feeling.  lost my bear hunting spot this year, and now have to find a new one.

I've been there.  Had a great deer spot and the old man let me hunt it every year.  He passed away and now his kid won't allow any hunting.   :tree1:  He likes to watch the deer.

Call back and ask for your son to hunt. Let them know how important it would be for him to start and that it would be greatly appreciated if at least your son could hunt there. Don't give up yet.

I say you try to win the old lady's heart by taking her out on a date or two and showing her a good time. Maybe she will let you hunt on her land then.... LOL. I'm sure your wife would understand, I mean, hunting property is hard to come by, everyone's gotta make sacrafices... HAHA.

I don't give any hunting area more than a 3-4 year lifespan because too much change happens.  I feel for you.  Better to find out now than September though. Good luck and obviously, work the adjacent landowners becasue those bucks are going to be there!

They're bigger than german shepherds (see below).

Thanks everyone.  I'll get it figured out.  The lady doesn't live there anymore so I can't take her out.  I used my charm on her to get there in the first place. ;) I don't think the guy who owns it now floats that way. :chuckle:

Patton,
Don't be showing the deer you must have killed over in Skagit as Island deer   ;) .... then everyone will be out here chasing them "german shepards".   :yike:  Start knocking on doors,  there aer a few places left but not many out here.  Way too many tree huggers!

Did I say that was a Whidbey Island deer?  I meant Camano Island. ;) I still have couple tricks up my sleeve.  We'll see how they turn out.

Putting the camera out on my 5 acres of Central Whidbey this weekend.  I've noticed quite a few young bucks around this year.  Saw a decent 4 pointer a few nights ago.  I usually like to hunt mule deer in the Okanogan.  Always nice just to get away and get in the mountains, but my place is a good backup.

Where about in Coupeville do you live?  If you don't mind me asking.  I recently moved to Oak Harbor from down there.  I like it around there better but financially it was a good move for us.  You probably know the lady I'm talking about.

I'm about 5 miles south of Coupeville off of race Road.  Does add to the gas costs driving back and forth to Oak Harbor daily, but I like my privacy.  I'm at the dead end of a dirt road.
