210 Bergers & 300 RUM
« on: July 18, 2010, 10:23:42 PM »
I am curious.. has anybody on the board shot the Berger 210 VLDs out of their 300 RUM and got 3000+fps?

I just had a good friend make me up some 210 VLDs, they shoot real accurate and the BC on this bullet is rediculously high!.. so I am thinking because of its performance capabilities is that I have real potent long range combo here. BUT.. I would really like to get 3000 fps... and I do not have a chronograph.

Has anyone shot this bullet and measured it out through their chronograph? I got the load on this cartridge at max with powder.

Thanks!

Probably a good idea to shoot your gun over a chrono versus relaying on others experience.  I got the 180's going 3460 out of my bros RUM.  I don't think I tried the 210's.

I have not tried that bullet, but....I bought one of the first ultras, a couple actually, anyhow, there was no data to be had.....so we started cooking up hand loads and measureing case head expansion. when I reached the upper end of my comfort I ran it through the lights......a 165 did 3700fps, a 180 did 3450. I have no doubt a 210 can go that fast......but is that how fast your gun will like to shoot it? it is money ahead to send a bullet down range 200 fps slower, if that produces a group that is tight and repeatable. shooting is all about repatition.

I had no problem getting 3000fps out of 210 VLD's and retumbo but my RUM wouldn't shoot the bergers well unless I was seating the bullets out close to the lands, too long to fit in the mag. well. I did work up a great load but I have to feed them single, ok for long range rock shooting but I don't want to hunt with a single shot.

Thanks for the info guys.. I found a good load that gives me consistent groups under 1" at 100 yards.. the more I read, I should be just over 3000 fps.. but as haugenna said, its probably a good idea I get it officially tested.. all I know is that I maxed the powder out of this sucker. Hell of a bullet though.. BC is .063 + 3000 fps.. means some serious long range ability.
