Big Buck I got a trail cam last year
« on: July 26, 2010, 09:42:03 AM »
I got him on trail camera last year. I have a couple of questions. First how old do you think he is? Second, what would he score?

He is a good looking deer and would be really tough to pass up but he looks to be maybe a 3 year old deer or so to me. He doesn't have the deep sagging belly yet or the more blocky head that deer tend do get as they get older. As far as score, it is always harder to judge when they are in velvet but my guess is between 120-130ish but I could be way off.

I would say he's a 3 1/2 year old in that pic. Lots of points but not very tall or wide. I would say he would score 150 gross, less for net maybe 142. Nice looking buck. He would be a shooter in my book this year.
Just one more day

The more I look at him, the higher I would score him. I think you are closer then my 130 and he would do more like 140 just because of the point total but he would get hurt on width and overall tine length.

when I studied him on the computer I came up with a point total of a 10x7. On my computer i was able to zoom in on him and count his points. That one side has alot of trash on it. And his left side actually has a double eyeguard but, that dang branch is hanging down perfectly in line with his eyeguard.

Agree with the age estimates above, he's not an old deer (at least not last year, he will be much more filled out this year if he survived and is 4 now).  I think he is a 125-130 mainframe, but all that extra trash will put him closer to 140+ gross.
Great buck.  Definitely a shooter, this year, or last...

Bill, I hope he is 160 this year!!!  Can't wait to go set up those trail cams to see if we can find him.  I agree 140ish, but an absolute bruiser in my book!

Nice. Now that's what I like to hear. Hopefully I can catch up with him this year and that he got what he needed this spring to put some growth on those antlers.
