What are the odds????
« on: July 27, 2010, 08:58:40 PM »
I've had a trail cam for about 3 years and Ive never had any luck getting pics of anything. In fact the largest animal I had a pic of was a robin and thats the only animal I've ever had a pic of after about a full 30 days worth of having the camera up in 3 different places. 2 nights ago my dad was bugging me about putting it back up so I went and bought a battery and put it at the Y of a grown up road about a mile from my house. The Y is a big dried up mud puddle you can usually see coyote tracks in and every once in a while you see some bear tracks or deer tracks. We figured it would be a good spot to at least get a picture of something we might be able hunt soon. The first animal pic was 13 hours later and I have to say, I wasnt expecting this.

That cougar came through about an hour too early...or he could have had rabbit for dinner.

The Y is about 10 feet to the left of where this pic is taken.

Guessing from the amount of time you have hung your cam,  you haven't used an attractent. Or you are not using a fast trigger speed on your cams, most cheap cams do not have a fast enough speed to just be placed on a trail without something to hold them.

I dont think this has a very good trigger speed. This was the cheapest cam you could buy at Walmart at the time. I tried to adjust the delay time between photos but I couldnt really figure it out. I lost the instruction manual for it years ago.

Your odd in that spot are good. I would set up where your trail cam was pointed up the trail or down the trail for a better chance of more than two pics of an animal, anyhow you got a pic of a lifetime so keep the camera going for more pics...

There wasnt much to hang the camera off except for a small alder tree that was right there and I was having a hell of a time adjusting the angle and direction it was pointing because all I could find to hang it with was a few small bungee cords and some string. My dad and I were talking about making a long wooden stake to hang it off so we could just put the cam where ever we wanted and just pound the stake into the ground.
I definetly plan to keep the camera in that same spot and maybe adjust the angle a little and hopefully hit a grand slam like that again!  ;)

I think you know why your not getting any deer pics.  :chuckle: You should take care of that problem. :bfg:

There has been a doe and fawn that Ive seen several times about 1/4 mile away and I havent seen them in a couple weeks. I havent really been looking for them but I guess if I see a doe with no fawn in that area, I'll know what happened.

Heck with the cat, that is one mean SOB rabbit to scare a lion away. Hunt the rabbit and hang his hide on the wall for all to worship.
