Cabela's Big Sky HD Spotting Scope 27-80
« on: July 30, 2010, 10:01:56 AM »
My dad and I have saved up enough money for a spotting scope. We are mostly going after mulies so we need high optical zoom. Does anyone have a Big Sky HD scope that would care to give their  :twocents: on it? I read some reviews on Cabela's and the major negative was the cheap lense caps.

I bought it today....I can deal with weight and I don't have anymore time to save as it is scouting season. I will give a review in about 2 weeks.

So far I am very satisfied with the scope. When you get to the higher maginifications it does get a little blurry which I expected. They must of fixed the lense cap issue because mine are good quality and fit snug. It does very well in low lighting and it has decent eye relief. The major issue I have is that cabelas doesn't include a soft or hard case but I also expected that because I read some reviews on the Cabelas website. I have not had the chance to look through $2000 glass like Swaro or Zeiss but I would say if your looking for something in the $800 range this would be my pick.  You can't beat a Cabelas warranty. Leupold has a new scope out called the Kenai which is in the same price range but its a 20-60....hopefully they went to better quality glass after the failure of the Sequoia. Also I talked to Zen-Ray a couple times through email and they said their new scope should be available early September. They told me they are retailing it for $1200 but they could give it to me for $950....just like they price their products on the Zen-Ray website.
