Dual Survival TV show....whacks an Eastern.
« on: July 30, 2010, 10:59:47 PM »
Did anyone else see the episodeof Dual Survival on Disc.Channel? They were doing their show from the Olyimpic Pen. somewhere around Quinault. The Sniper guy fashioned an arrow out of nothing and whacked a Jake with it. Now knowing Easterns around here that impressed me, but my question is, how do they legitamately do that? Are those things filmed during a season and they buy the tag for it or are those shows allowed to " poach" for TV? Or third do they come in a pay an " Under the table" fee to the State and all is forgotten? It's hard enough to bag an eastern we don't need those guys coming in a wiping out a marginal size flock just to get some ratings :twocents:

I have hunted and camped up there for 30 years and never heard of turkeys in the Quinault.  :dunno:

I saw the episode, and I would bet that the turk was tied down.

That is a possiblity...seeing how those shows aren't always as " wild" as they claim to be. But on the Turkey front, I don't know exactly where they were, I heard a reference to the Quinault's on the show so I assumed. On the Turke front though, whether or not it was feral or wild, My Dad was logging up in the Humptulips a few years back and saw a tom and two hen a couple different times. I suppose they could've over the years made their way in from the Cap Forrest area?

TT - Some Easterns were planted both up the "Nooch"  and "Hump". If some have spread down the "Hump" they could end up on the Quinalt reservation ... not sure they have to abide by state regs for hunting on the "res" ... can hardly get them to abide by it off the "res".

I am more upset he didn't tag that bad boy..he must have been on the res.  I believe there are more easterns out there than we even know.

 :yeah:

that was my question, and in talking with an offical high up in the enforcment side of WDFW, they were not made aware of this when they went to film. I'm mors suspect that it was a rigged turkey, while I don't blame those guys for doing so, if it was a wild bird I think they should have to either pay a fee for shooting it or outright buy a license. If' you watch a little earlier he was stalking a herd of elk, I i'd bet if he got an opportunity he'd shot one.....And knowing our WDFW they'd careless about a lil' ol' turkey but boy the hell they'd raise with  downed elk for a TV show?

Quite a few birds released in the Wynoochee area, and Humptullips starting in the late 80's with the majority released in the 90's.  Birds were also scattered in groups from Shelton west to the Wynoochee during the 90's.  As Yelp said....more Easterns out there than we probably realize.

A couple birds were reported as far north as Cushman, which may have been either from a northern expansion or came across Hood Canal from Bangor where some NW Trek birds were released in the 80's to see if Easterns might survive.  They were the closest thing to wild Easterns we had.  They reproduced and wild birds were then brought in from Pa. and Missouri to begin with.  Iowa birds were released the last 4-5 years of the 90's up to 2000.

I want to know why them two ................s didn't run into highway 101, and I'm sure that turkey was tied up. I like the show for the most part but some parts are totally unrealistic !

these shows are reality shows, nothing more they are just trying to show you how to survive in a given situation :twocents:, yes the turkey was obviously tied up it was flopping around in the same spot while he was talking to the camera :chuckle:, and more than likely it was a farm raised bird not wild, they didnt show hwy 101 because it wasnt in the script :chuckle:

Robo, I had the same question...but i guess they had to fill up their TV slot...Anybody from the state would know what to do in that situation...As much as they walked they would have been able to hit 101!

I'm sure they would have hit a logging road out there too, you cant go a mile in any direction without hitting one unless your in the park or on the rez, I don't know about there !!

Its an entertaining show, I like the humor in it, those guys remind me of myself a bit each in their own way, and I have learned a couple things while watching it so I won't bash it too much. Just don't believe the unbelievable parts and remember its television !!
