Bear hunting follies
« on: August 08, 2010, 07:20:00 PM »
Uncoolperson and I went out on a long hunt yesterday.  The day started out like any normal hunting day, and with the lack of fog I was pretty exicted that I would have visibilty.  Went out to one of my many honey holes, and set up the fawn decoy, on top a high stump.  Then I placed my homebrew player and hit play.  No sooner than a few steps I hear a crash in the stump.  Much to my displeaure the middle of the stump was hollow, and the homebrew fell down well out of arms reach.  My hunting buddy devised this type of cather with his bandana, and some rope.  I used my shooting stick to manuever this onto the homemade device.  Got it finally out of the stump, and found out we broke a few buttons on the home brew.  Oh well still works, then the off to follie number 2.  We head further up the road and find a awesome sight, a high altitude pond, and viewing for hunderes of yards.  We head down there and set up the decoy again.  After a10 minutes the bugs had gotten the better of us, and we deicded to head over and see if the pond had any fish.  Nope only had bugs and frog eggs, the pond appeard to be its deepest at a whopping 2 feet. Still a good view, and plenty of bugs!  To get to this clearing, it took a lot climbing over slick logs, and unseen drops in the ground.  I am suprised that neither of us rolled a ankle or worse.  After that we head back down the hill, and another truck is headed up, so I do the good thing and pull over for him to pass, not a second after he passes I hear the tire deflating :bash: :bash:.  ANother hunter on his way up helped us change the tire, and it was no easy task.  NOne of us have ever done it on a newer  truck,  :P after a 30 minute tire change we all deicded to go into a cave that  was along the road.  it tured out to dead end on us

Even though the day was filled with follies, it was still a worthwile day, and I learned that volcanic rock doesnt mix with my tires :'(  I find days like this more memorable than days where nothing happens.

was quite the adventure!

feeling kinda bad, you were having some bad luck with equipment (homebrew [get that fixed okay?]/truck tires/me losing fawn decoy ears [will be in the mail as soon as I find out if they are sold by the pair]).

and to top it all off, the bar had some organized madness which kept us from stopping for a beer on the way back!

next time I'll drive, I'll just do research on tow companies along the way just in case.
