tying up two hooks????
« on: August 12, 2010, 07:39:41 PM »
Hey guys, with all this sockeye fishing and salmon fishing going on i have been interested in tying up all my own double hooks and things like that.  I have seen my buddy tie his and then looking at all the double snell red hooks already tied up it seems there is a step i may be missing, or something.  From the way i thought to do it and have down it, it looks like it works but if you back the line back the coil become slightly lose but for instance the pre tied red hooks from Hooked on Toys seem like they have a couple extra wraps on the "back" of the coil and nothing moves. What am i doing wrong or whats up??? thanks for your help you guys.

I use egg loops on both hooks the bottom gets tied first and then the next one the egg loop knot that I was taught keeps its self cinched tight.  you can try salmon university for a how to....I think.  I can't even begin to decsribe how to do it. the first one in a while always has me scratching my head till i remember how to do it.

thanks, i think i looked a a million sites and videos on it and most are different or the guy has his own twist on it.  I will look at the egg loop technique.  I tied some up last night and i had stuff spread out all over beads and hooks and floats by the time i was done lol!!

http://www.piscatorialpursuits.com/resourcecenter/bumperknot.htm  this is the basic egg loop.  you do the same thing with the second hook it just takes some pratice.  the way I fish the river I get lots of pratice tying these things.   :chuckle:

My ex father in law, put a 12/0 sturgeon hook through his upper lip, using his teeth to tighten a dacron knot.  I was laughing so hard it took me almost 10 min. to get it cut off and pulled out for him.  :chuckle: :chuckle:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

Ty the top hook solid not a  slider because if you have both hooks in the fish and the bottom hook breaks off the top will slide right off the end  :twocents: also I ty egg loops on both hooks. And have a small 2x4 to put the point of the hook in so you can pull the line tight and not worry about figuring out how to get that 3/0 hook out of your hand

If your tying for salmon, especially Silver tie a longer tag between the Hook, bait on the top as Silver strike from the back and you'll hardly ever miss a hook set on a silver...  Almost ever time in AK, I would always hook the fish on the bottom hook and prior to doing that had a lot of missed connections...
