Whats the regs or law say about hunting Snoqualmie GMU?
« on: August 13, 2010, 09:00:26 AM »
Have many friends with houses in the woods in Snoqualmie, living on 2+ acres each.. they have bears all the time this year running through their yard, getting in their trash..

What does the regs say about arrowing one of these guys on their own land? If each neighbor is cool with it would their be an issue?

As long as the landowner doesn't live in a city with a no hunting ordinance you will be fine. I am guessing they live in unincorporated King County anyways. You only need permission from the landowner whos property your going to hunt. You can run into some issues if say you shoot the bear on your buddies property and the bear runs into the neighbors property and dies there, if you don't ask their permission to enter their property they can prosecute you for trespassing. And there have been stories of people denying access to those who have had animals die on their property, they don't legally have to allow you to enter their property just because your animal died there.

I live out in North Bend myself and we have both elk and bear in our yard all the time. We have talked about this issue and like what was stated, the two things I would check on before hunting someones property would be to make sure there aren't any no hunting rules and second, check with the neighbors and let them know what you are doing so that if you might need to access their property, you can. Where I live, hunting is legal but only with a bow. I could fill my elk tag every year and not have to leave my house but never have because a)I would rather go out into the woods and really "hunt". Its a good excuse to get away from everything and b)You never know where and how far an arrowed animal will run. Just my luck and it will run into an anti-hunters yard and all hell will break loose.  :bash:

So, I think I need to check if Snoqualmie has a no hunting ordinance city wide.. it sounds like North Bend does not, but I think Snoqualmie does.

Will the local PD now? Or do I need to cal WDFW?

The area I live doesn't have a no hunting ordinance, just no firearm ordinance. There are areas of Snoqualmie where there is no hunting but there are also TONS of areas that don't. Where do your friends live? I was born and raised in the area and could probably give you a little help but I would also contact the local WDFW officer and ask him. He will be your most reliable source.

Well, my buddies live just outside downtown Snoqualmie...way off the road back in the woods. I live on the Ridge.. I know there is not a chance I can do anything there.. pretty confident I can do something on his property! I will definitely ask the WDFW.. but what is your experience with the area?

I have plenty of friends who have taken deer, bear etc off their property. One of the state record black bears was taken out of my old neighbors back yard. The ridge is off limits for sure but most other places away from downtown Snoqualmie should be fine.

DONT call WDFW. The matters of city/county no hunting ordinances are city/county matters and not WDFW. The person that answers the phones at the WDFW office will not know the answer because it is not a state law. Usually the only WDFW personnel who know about these smaller laws are the actual WDFW Officers assigned to the area. So your best chance of getting a correct answer is calling the city PD. Also, remember just because their mailing address is Snoqualmie doesn't mean they live in the city of Snoqualmie.....

If he lives in city limits you need to call the city. If he lives in unincorporated King Co you don't need to call anybody and you can hunt.
The people who answer the calls at WDFW do not know about city laws. It is not their job to know them.

Thanks for the info guys.. I will call the local PD and ask about the address.. see what they say. Plan on archery.. dont want to frighten anybody.. I already told my buddy the neighbors will have to be super cool. With the amount of bears around there.. I sure hope they are!

He is correct in most cases but the guy I know is a local guy and works directly with the police as well so he would be able to tell you what is and isn't huntable. Do as you please though. Can't go wrong with calling the local cops and if they say to contact the WDFW then you can call them too.
