Buoy 10?
« on: August 14, 2010, 10:05:08 PM »
Anyone hitting buoy 10 yet?  I was set to head down in the morning but got a text from a friend (who is an awesome fisherman) that out of 7 of them they caught 1 sub-legal in the past 2 days.  I think that I will wait another week.  Anyone else heard any news or been fishing down there yet?

I fished it yesterday with a guide friend. We had 5 rods out and no bites. Last year it was the 14th that all hell broke lose. I guess the Commies cleaned teh river out Thursday and the fish just hadn't moved back in. The boats that came back in off the Ocean all had fish. Wa side sounded slower than teh Org side. we seen about 5 fish hooked. It's due too kick off any day.

Talked to my friend and out of 7 rods they wound up with 1 25-30 lb. king in 2 days of fishing.  Lets hope that next weekend is better.

talk to my guide buddy they got 2 kings, 1 steelhead,  and 2 silvers (first of the season)  today.  sounds pretty decent to me.   On top of that the water was flat.

It is still early for the "BIG PUSH". ;)
Typically we dont head down till the 25th. But with the big return this year predicted, were going Friday and staying thru the 29th. Could be gangbusters this year!

Damn it, I had a gut feeling that we should have gone anyway.  All the reports that I got were bad news friday, sat and sunday.  I'll definitely hit it next weekend, better weather coming.

The last 2 years seems like the fish were early. This year seems like they are back to the timing i remember.
Years ago seems like i wouldn't start to fish it untill the mid. of august. Now people are worried if they don't start hooking fish the first of august.
It will only get better from here on out. Seems like there are less coho though.

We just got back (15th - 20th) and the first four days we got 13 chinook and 3 coho.  The bite died Wednesday though and we only caught 2 more coho the last two days of fishing.  Caught everything on whole herring, and most of them at 18 pulls.  Weird year so far, most of the chinook were clipped and we never caught a wild coho... and all the fish are big.  We caught three chinook that bottomed the 25 pound scale we had (probably 22-23 pound average) and all the coho were 10-12 pounds.

We just got back and the fishing was tough.  Only saw few netted.  I hooked a king that the guide in the next boat over estimated at 40+ but lost it due to paying too much attention to the idiot blasting through at full throttle between me and the guide boat (about 15-20 yards).  It gave up a couple of great jumps before I lost it.  That was the only real bite of the day and it was on a Brad's Superbait Cutplug with my special bug juice in it.  We did get a real late start (9:30) and the only bite was 1/2 hr before high tide.  Man the people were exceptionally rude and moronic today!

Most of the coho we got into (in the salt and river) were wild. Sucks having to toss them back like that. And nearly all hooked were on spinners, not bait.

Anybody have an open seat for late next week???  :) :) :)

We saw very few nets "flying".  We had 3 rods going, one with a hootchie spinner, one herring and one Brad's Superbait Cutplug.   The king hit 500 yds or so West of the bridge in 40 feet of water kinda on that edge.  I was marking more fish on the edge of the deeper water so I concentrated on it.  We came across a sturgeon that a seal had taken 2 bites out of and left.  The gulls were having a feast on it.  It was probably around 4-5 feet long.  We saw a half dozen or more seals with fish in their mouths.
