So, I just returned from a scouting trip in the blues.  the only elk I saw was dead. It had been killed, the antlers and hindquarters taken, and the rest left in the road.  It was on the grouse flat-pomeroy road, just above cabin saddle.  I hope it wasn't the only 350+ class bull left because I've got 19 days and a quality hunt tag to fill!

The bull that 400out is talking about(I assume) was killed in the 178 Peola unit up off of the Peola road. I was up there Saturday night and talked to one of the landowners who was out running around looking for bad guys. We were stopped glassing a group of elk and he came up behind us with the headlights out thinking/hoping we were the poachers. Someone was right down below his house calling elk and he thought it was us.
He told me a 350 bull and no meat/horns were taken.  :dunno:

honestly, this happens a lot up off the 40 road. I've witnessed guys getting out of the truck, setting their beer on the head, shooting at a bull and then leaving, thinking that they missed.

pretty sad, I know of several dead bulls that have been left to rot, with only the horns and the easy meat removed.

I don't have anything against native americans but I do have a serious problems with the ones that do this. I'm not saying that other groups don't do it too but my first hand experiences have been with natives.

For the record...
I understand they don't think this was native americans that killed this bull and there was no meat or horns taken at all. This I heard from the landowner guy I talked to. I know some guys got busted a few years back for killing elk up there and taking the backstraps and leaving the rest to rot. they were not native americans either....that said, there is a ton of native american hunting that goes on up in the Lick Creek unit and they all come from Idaho.

:dunno:I passed a truck the weekend before deer opener a couple years ago that have ID plates and a spike in the back! I don't know if it was native americans or not I still kick myself for not writting down the plates and calling someone just in case  :bash: Tha wont happen again!  and just for the record I don't care if it was a bull or a cow, if the elk was just shot because it was in the wrong spot and stood still to long! its wrong very wrong  I hope they catch them  :mgun:   I think we need a smiley face hanging from a rope!  :chuckle:
