New Longbow
« on: August 17, 2010, 04:44:18 PM »
I have been considering getting a new long bow. I have one but it is a 28" draw and i am a 30". Any ideas where i can get a good bow for 400.00 or less in the Seattle Tacoma area. I might even go over to wenatchee Cle-Elum area sense i am always over there. Needs to be enough poundage to harvest an Elk.

Talk to pacyew on here...none better in the immediate area.  He's  out of Fall City I believe. Ray can verify.

I have gotten a couple of blacktails with my long bow, then started to hunt with the compound. Would like to use a long bow again.

For 400 dollars and local your choices will be limited on brand new bows. Your best bet will be 2nd hand in my opinion. Just because a bow is marked a specific poundage and weight at 28 inches doesn't mean it cannot be drawn to 30 inches. Each model will differ on whether or not it should be drawn well beyond it's intended use that is for certain.

The three locals which I know of are as follows. All of which have fine reputations.

For 2nd hand bows a good bet is TradGang's Classifieds http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=5. If you are patient you can find a good deal there. I see them all the time..

can't go wrong with a bow from Curt Brisky,  or any of the others Ray listed.  However you can find a great deal on tradgang like he mentioned... keep an eye out for a Sapphire HAwk (good luck finding one),  a Toelke WHip or in my opinion a Kabekona or Whisperstik.... those are listed in order.... if you see something and are curious of how it is,  Hornseeker here, Bone, Ray or I might have shot it.  Heck I probably even own one..... LOL  ANother site to keep an eye on is pirates of archery http://www.piratesofarchery.net/bb/index.php?sid=f7c9c9d244c98f0e20f0fb3f67562ece or on stickbow.com  http://leatherwall.bowsite.com/tf/lw/CLASSIFIEDS.CFM   good luck in your search!

May not be as "custom" as some others listed but the Damon Howatt (Martin) Savannah is an awesome bow and can be found for a little over $400 new.

No argument with the Savannah... nice bow but they have increased there prices recently,  seen them now for over $500... they do shoot well though.

Lots of good bows...if you are really interested in shooting trad, just buy a bow, used... and shoot it....if you dont like it, sell it and buy another...  keep trying.

Looking at the used bow classifieds like listed above, you can find thousand dollar customs for $400.... just be patient....

If you are looking for a 30" draw bow, just add about 6# to any bow marked 28.... Now...some bows are not designed to draw 30, but MOST you will be fine!

Good Luck, keep us posted!
